Family Jamm

Do you think the concert will ever be released (on CD or on DVD)? Or at least bootlegged?

I'm sure I read that someone replied to this request that due to licensing or something there were no plans to release it.

Unfortunately, there are no plans for a DVD.

This was posted at the Family Jamm site weeks ago:

DVD
Although we have seriously addressed the possibility of recording this benefit concert to raise additional funds for our foundation, at this time and as a result of the legal challenges and financial ramifications, we regret to inform you that The 1st Annual Family Jamm! will not be filmed for the distribution of a DVD. We appreciate your comments, interest & support, and hope to see you in Los Angeles for this historical event. You don't want to miss it!

In my job we're working on a project where we're trying to do a CD and the legal ramifications really are extremely complicated and require lots of resources to deal with. And this is for a client who has money for it, so you can imagine how hard it would be for a non-profit.

It still is dissappointing, but more reason for everyone to buy tickets!!! There are still great seats available! Last night I checked and there were still floor seats in Section B which is Center!!! For only $75!!!

C'mon y'all... you know you want to go to LA for the weekend in December! smile Support LABF and get a ticket!

I don't know how ANY Prince fan could miss this show. When has there ever been a celebration of Prince's music put together like this? Not just the songs that Prince released but songs from his massive cataloge. I can't imagine living in L.A. and not going to a show where Prince is more than likely to show up.

I would love to go, but seeing as I'm in Boston and seeing Simon and Garfunkel the same night, I don't think I can make it work..

I agree!! I'm coming in from NY! How can we get the word out??? I'm shocked there are still tix available.

I emailed LABF a few weeks ago to ask what else we could do to help but they said they'd let me know.

So what can we do to help promote this so all the tickets sell and they make us much as $$ as possible for the Foundation?

You know what's weird? They don't seem to be alarmed or even concerned about ticket sales. It's almost like they have something up their sleeve that they KNOW will sell tickets even if it's with a couple of weeks notice.

Really? are you inferring this from the lack of noise or what?

I hope what you're implying is not true (i.e. about a certain someone showing up). I know I"m probably in the minority, but I want to see a Sheila E/Revolution/Jill Jones/Time concert... paying triubte to the 80's era Minneapolis sound, playing the songs we love, seeing groups we never got to see.

I don't want to attend an NPG concert/JW meeting! smile

I really want to go, but a plane ticket is just too expensive to come by.

We need some sort of subsidized travel for orgers. lol (Of course, there are those among us who would scoff that this is tantamount to socialist takeover.)

I know the feeling. I had decided to not go and passed on the presale tickets... but with P playing in Hawaii so close to the dates and the Reflection room at the NPGMC reflecting on the music of his side projects (most of whom are showing up at the Family Jamm) I decided to go ahead an purchase at ticket to the concert just in case. I figure if I can't go, at least the money that I spent is going toward supporting the charity event.

The orgers should charter a plane biggrin. Imagine that... "This is your captain Prince speaking..." lol

I'm SOOO excited for this, and I was really surprised too when I looked for available tickets last week. It's too bad there isn't more publicity outside of the "Prince" community. Traveling is expensive as it is, and the timing of it a week and a half before Christmas kinda limits the audience as well.

AT ANY RATE... I'll be there, meeting A-P-O-L-L-O-N-I-A!!!

I agree...there needs to be more publicity. I emailed the announcement to my friends and no one had heard of it! I wonder where, if anywhere else, this event is being advertised?

I don't have the finances at the moment, Xmas, bills and such it all mounts up, I would love to go, but hell, it's just one show, albiet featuring many of my favourite musicians and Sheila E, the Goddess herself.

I am PRAYING that someone records this and we get at the very least a bootleg CD (which would be the first bootleg I have purchased since Thunderball's Dream Factory bootleg), and I am hoping we get a CD and a DVD.

I'm really excited about this event but I'm worried about the lackluster ticket sales. I just checked on Ticketmaster and found 16th row tickets right in front of the stage. It looks like the cheaper ($50) tickets are selling better in the lower loge, but the rafters are totally empty.

From my admittedly rough and optimistic estimates, it looks like 3,000 - 4,000 tickets have been sold, for a house that holds 18,000. That's a lot of empty seats, and a lot of empty space for the sound to bounce around. This show would have made a lot more sense at the Palladium, which holds 3,500.

Maybe Sheila landed the Forum for free - they don't have much going on there since the Lakers (and the major concert tours) abandoned it. That's the only reason that could explain her booking this big ol' tin can in Inglewood...or maybe, just maybe, she has a purple Ace up her sleeve.

row 16 in front--but not up close right--I am close to row 16--thatvmeans 16 seats back right?

If she does have a purple ace up her sleeve then maybe they should announce it to help them lackluster ticket sales.

I think Prince needs to donate his time and participate, as well as donate some money to hire a film crew to get this thing released on DVD. I should post this 'suggestion' over on the charity forum over at the NPGMC. Maybe Prince would get wind of it and do something.

I was thinking that would be a good idea too, but I don't know if he'd have any better chances of getting around all the aforementioned licensing problems/hoops.

I think all of us who aren't going should still try to donate some money to this great cause. It's not *just* about the concert!
