As a person who has very little knowledge of Classical music, could somebody please explain why Prince has been refered to in the past as a 'modern day Mozart'. Besides the obvious e.g they are/were exeptionally gifted musicians/composers, what other similiarities do they share which justifies this comparison? I remember Prince saying that he once watched the movie 'Amadeus' and could see comparisons between Wolfgang and Himself. However, he never expanded upon this in explaining what the similarities actually were.

Also, does anybody know who was the first to label Prince a 'modern day mozart' and who gave him th title 'his royal badness'?

I too know very little regarding classical composers. Although, I believe Prince is called a modern day Mozart due to how prolific they are with regard to composing.

I think that statement came out in the early '90s, when Prince and his public relations people were throwing out bizarre comments to the media left and right. I remember it wasn't unusual back in the day to be coming home from work and hearing on the radio "...and in other news, the pop star formerly known as Prince is now claiming to be a thousand years old..." - for a while, it seemed like there was no end to it.

Watch the ext. video for cream. The photographers in ther are asking Prince all sorts of questions related to that.
Prince just keeps walking and saying...yes...yes...yes.

Vanessa Mae told once Prince and Mozar are very similar, she loved to relax with Mozart and to dance with Prince, and she thought Prince and Mozart would be good friends if they could meet each other.

To my mind, Prince and Mozart are similar because both starting to play and compose at an early age, his fathers were musicians, both lived only for music, both have composed a lot of songs, and both have a very peculiar personality.

At the time Mozart was writting music he was not only prolific as others mentioned, but his arrangements were original, intense and not fully appreciated. Listen to the Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, A little night music, etc. They say genius steals, not in the case of Mozart.
