Princes best scream

What is your favourite scream on a prince song. Personally mine is on Let's Pretend We're Married followed by that at the end of Endorfinmachine.

Let's Pretend We're Married, definitely. The Beautiful Ones and Gett Off, too.

Darling Nikki and then Endorphinemachine. Those both give chills sometimes. I guess I'd have to put The Beautiful Ones up there too. We seem to all be in agreement on this topic. smile

His scream in Superfunkacalifragisexy is also a fave. It's hysterical.

It's either a toss-up between The Beautiful Ones, Let's Go Crazy, or Mountains.

By the way, we all know that screaming is pretty standardized in Prince songs, but why does he do it? Did it come from James Brown? Or was that something that Prince decided to create himself? Not many artists do that, you know.

Sometimes I hear little "yelps" in his songs that make me wonder, "What made him think that a little screech belonged in that part of the song?" It seems weird sometimes. Are guys supposed to do that? I don't do those type of things, at least not consciously, or unless...

nevermind.

Now that I think of it, doesn't Michael Jackson make a lot of weird vocalizations in his songs. Weird, eh? No?

Both Mj and P make some of the weirdest interjections, but for some reason it's catchy enough for people to dig. Besides, maybe they do it to be original or to stand out.

But it had to come from their idol, James Brown.

I was reading a (lame) book which had a bunch of lists ie Top Twenty songs about cars/Beatles songs/love songs/etc and they had a category for Top Twenty screams in music and to my surprise Number 1 was The Beautiful Ones, other mentions were Welcome to the Jungle, Lennons 'Mother'

I love how he just keeps it going for The Beautiful Ones but I remember having a screaming compettion with Something in the Water when I was about 10 years old. My cousin still laughs about that.

Something In The Water...I was listening to this track in my car last night and as usual I was blown away by the power of his screaming in this song. The amazing thing about this track is the way he rotates between his natural singing voice and screaming, coupled with the empassioned lyrical content. Astounding!

Wasn't it said on these boards before that that's not Prince at the start of "Gett Off", but Rosie instead?
