That funked-up flute cacophony is enough to make me jump up and down with glee...and then the bass guitar kicks in - buh-BOW, buh-BOW!!!...and then the beat...BOOM!...(chah) BOOM!BOOM! Hehe. OK, that's next in the player. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

It's a great use of a flute-ish sample.
You can hear Prince really having a ball for the first time really with samplers on Batman and Graffiti Bridge - almost to excess by modern day standards with all those vocal stabs ! But this opening still sounds gorgeous no matter where it came from... | |

I always thought it was that instrument -kind of a series of different sized flutes mounted side-by-side, an instrument associated with traditional southAmerican music.
