2 very different movies, love the gritty story of PR, the concert performance and sexiness of Apollonia. Love the silly hilariousness of UTCM, and the sexiness of Kristin Scott-Thomas. Tough choice , but my pick is UTCM, more dialogue increases watchability over and over. YOur pick?

EWff UTCM even though it showed us Prince as a non enigma--PR is THE movie.

Although I enjoy both, I'd have to give the nod to 'Purple Rain'. For the performances alone.

tonight at work, the stage manager played PR on the overhead screens and i couldn't help but think, "what a lucky bastard Prince must have been to be making such a dreadful film, make all the money, get them awards AND get laid ALL THE TIME! during the filming"

I'm beginning to prefer 'UTCM' to 'Purple Rain' now...

I must've seen 'PR' 20 odd times by now, compared to 'UTCM'
which i've watched probably 6 or 7 times.

Still both movies are cool

They both really suck, actually, if you're looking for a "good" movie. But if you're into camp, I prefer "UTCM."

Beautiful use of France as a setting, very ambitious look. Cheesy as all get out, but fun.

I don't really like to watch PR anymore,it just doesn't make me happy to watch it,through the whole movie,he's mean & scary,and its hard to even like him.
At least in UTCM,he seems more likable and funny.Plus UTCM has more love scenes.

Hi, folks, this is my post for today.

Purple Rain, as lame and as dated as it might look now, still wipes the floor with Under The Cherry Moon.

I perfer Purple Rain. It's highly enjoyable. Purple Rain is one of my most favorites. It falls between both UTCM and his 1990 flim, GB. Under The Cherry Moon might've been a funny and romantic flim, but the soundtrack, Parade (which i am listening to now) is better than the movie itself anf Parade is funky. That's my opinion.

I don't know how an adult can like PR better than UTCM. The acting aside from Morris, and the Kid's parents was terrible in the former and there was nothing redeemable about any of the characters. Aside from the music everything is better in UTCM, and the music is still great.

PR has a dark, gloomy feel whereas UTCM is like a breath of fresh air. Prince's performance is much, much better in the latter and Kristin Scott Thomas is a much better actress (and is sexier than Apollonia, who is bland).

UTCM is miles above Purple Rain, though I must PR has its moments
