Yep Prince is Black, American and alive. Baudelaire isn't. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Both want to make a different reality, they don't like the concrete things and they talk about spirit, imagination, projects...,and both believe an artist is like a prophet, someone who can lead people.

This comparison goes without saying All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

Spooky Electric is the first thing I think of, the next is
probably Camille. Prince is about 3rd in line. Quite a distance after those two. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Both seek/sought an audience who would not merely 'accept' their art on traditional terms... both address the religious personification of Beauty and Love Well, Baudelair adressed a whole lot more than simply religion expressed through beauty, love and sexuality. A lot of his work was far more shocking and 'perverse' than anything Prince ever put to tape. And that's with the inclusion of "sister". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

And as for shock..I think both wielded with skill the shock experience and in similar ways. Are you versed in baudelair? I'm only a wide-eyed beginner..

I've read his work, but I wouldn't say I'm schooled in his work, no. I didn't really like many of his poetic images so I haven't gone back to it yet. I will one day but not right now. I'm more into Russian poets at the moment. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
