T'is true, t'is true.
Read all about it in DMSR or Days Of Wild. It would have been fun to see Prince in the video, but a bad career move yes. Although seeing, seeing MJ say "you ain't bad, you ain't nuthin'" to lil' half-pint would have been funny. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In the Chris Rock interview, Prince said the reason he turned the song down is because the first line is "Your butt is mine". Prince said "now who is going to sing that line to who?", "You're not singing that to me... and I'm damn sure not singing it to you!"
I was rolling... Prince is hilarious when he wants to be. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

The idea of 120lb MJ and 5'2" Prince being gang leaders I think would have been a bit too far fetched, to put it mildly. What would they have fought over; which one has the highest falsetto?

According to the Quincy Jones interview on the Bad Spaecial Edition CD the two met but Prince said "This will be a hit without me" and turned it down.

Even though it wasn't a VERY sucessful album, it still yielded U GOT THE LOOK as a hit. He was still riding a high at the time. He didn't really need to sell out to gain popularity at that time. Where Prince moved further into cult status & critically viewed as a "artist". mainstream acceptance doesn't equal success. I love artist who fail, & succeed...thats art. i don't dig hits. Nero
