Your First Prince Tour/How Long Have You Been A Fan?

When Was It? I started following his music religously after 1999 (82 on) but it took me until 93 to see him. Of course he didn't tour the US for 5 years (it's hard to imagine that in light of recent times). I first saw him in San Francisco 93 both nights but found out on my way home about his infamous aftershow at THE DNA LOUNGE & it was too late to get in. I've made up for it big time, probably have seen him perform close to 35 times maybe more since & a slew of aftershows & one memorable paisley gig in Sept.2000. I think it was Blackwell's first "live" gig with the man & it took place in the Love4OneAnother Room. He started off on Habibi with this long egyptian tinged instramental & played an Undertaker/Love Bizarre groove on keyboards that was ridiculous. His energy was on 10 that night. I also remember he kept squirting Larry's Wife with bottled water which pleased me to no end. The gig ended with Kip singing "The Light" by Common & Prince doing background vocals from the soundboard. Anyone from Minny at that show? What was your first tour? Also what's the farthest you've traveled to see him? Mine was Birmingham, AL in 98 from SF, Cali. Let's Hear your story's..

Been following Prince since 1978. I use to get him mixed up with 'The Silvers' because of the big afros.

First concert - 1999 Tour, November 19, 1982 (21 years ago today). He actually spoke to me after the gig. Of course, I was crying and traumatized and could only say his name. Thank God those geek days are over.

The best ticket venture - 1988 When the Lovesexy tickets when on sale. My little brother and I slept outside of Rose Records on Adams & Wabash in Chicago from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday morning. I would wash up and change clothes in McDonald's and go to work. My sister would relieve my brother during her lunch hour. I would come back from school and home with clothes for the next day and my brother would take off until around 11 pm at night.

We were number three in line and ended up getting the 18th row (I purchased 8 tickets). On Friday night around 100 people were camping out and we were jamming Prince and telling stories of when we first saw him in concert and met him. I later won tickets on WGCI for the 12th row and sold my tickets for $30 (face value was $27) because I too scared to scalp the ticket for a lot of money. The days before the lottery were the ultimate.

I will be at the Family Jamm but I don't know what row since I'm a VIP person. However, I wrote 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' and requested four tickets for December 12. I received the tickets in the mail yesterday. You should do the same. It will be cool to be on his show and really nice if the audience is filled with at least 100 of us Family Jamm attendees.

I'm going to email Sheila E to ask if she would contact 'The Tonight Show' about guesting the night of December 12.

See you in Cali!

First concert was Nude tour, 1990, Wembley, London and it was a load of big rubbish. Prince you were a load of big rubbish that night. Got over that one and enjoyed all the European tours since apart from ONA tour. Big mistake missing that one.

My first concert was the Parade tour at Wembley arena London in '86 and have been a fan since about'81 but addicted since '84.

I haven't counted them but I must be in the 100+ concerts by now and that's not including the aftershows!
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

I have known Prince since 1999, became a fan at When Doves Cry.

My parents wouldn't let me go to the Parade tour unfortunately, so my first tour was SOTT (twice), then Lovesexy (5 meters from stage, yes!), then the sucky Nude show. I went to the concerthall for the D&P tour but I couldn't get affordable tickets.

After that I lost interest in Prince. It was rekindled by the internet in 2000 and by TRC in 2001. Then I saw the ONA tour in 2002, which was really great. I guess I'm a fan for live!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Been a fan since 1984, since hearing When Doves Cry.

My first show was in August 1988 when i saw the Lovesexy tour at Wembley Arena.

I have since seen 6 Nude shows, 8 Diamonds and Pearls shows including Wembley Stadium and i caught the Gold Experience show in March 1995.

The last time i saw Prince was in August 1998 at Brixton Academy. I've continued to buy his music since then and he will ALWAYS be my number one but i have to put my hands up and say that i did drift off for a while disbelief but i'm listening to little else at the moment, especially Parade. I forgot how totally amazing that album is music

Fan since 93/94 (swapped one of my albums for a friend's prince album) and - BAM! - hit me in a way like no other artist ever has. err

Bought all the albums, videos, books etc in one mad period, thinking 'Where the HELL have these been all my life???. It was like skipping into some colourful, funky, musical paradise and I had free entry, somehow.

Seen him live:

* Gold Experience Tour '95 (London, Wembley Arena)
* New Power Soul Tour '98 twice (London, Wembley Arena & Brixton Academy)
* Xenophobia Celebration 2002 (Mpls, 7 nights)
* One Nite Alone Tour 2002 twice (London, Apollo)
* Marquee Aftershow 2002 (London, ONA Tour)

So - including the Celebration - about 13 times live.

Best concert??? Not sure; maybe the final night of the ONA Tour in London?

Favourite show/moment? The 3rd night at 'Xenophobia' - Prince's full-on, funkfest. STILL makes me shiver thinking about it. (And, dayum, he looked the business that night).

Aah, memories... music

that's the way it was for me, i borrowed controversy & was floored by the title track & then Let's work. So groove oriented it left a mark. I went on to buy everything & anything i could get my hands on & as far as imports go i still do.. smile

First one?

Oh Jeez...it was at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, the tour after Purple Rain came out. I was crying, (I don't remember doing this), and my mom felt so bad for me that she arranged and paid for 4 tixs and $80 a pop, just so I would not be upset anymore. It's funny when you're a teenager. I thought I would JUST DIE if I didn't get to see him.I was OBSESSED with him in my teen years. ha ha.

I was at that show and I hardly remember anything about it. And I was sober. The only things I remember were when Chaka was opening and singing I Feel For U and then Prince ran on stage to duet on the chorus. And I remember Larry Graham walking into the crowd during his set. Did Prince do anything of note?
