I never heard any confirmation from collectors or such that this song was definately a 1993 song in origin.

After than infamous letter from Uptown years ago, it has always been in mind when I hear 319 that it has that 1989 "Partyman" ring to it, those synth-horns especially.

The vocals do sound 1993 though, so who knows.

an ex-associate told me once that it was a batman outtake. She didn't have a copy of it to prove as such, but when it all comes down... who fucking cares?!

319 was recorded in October 1993.
Prince recorded Chaos And Disorder, Gold, Right The Wrong
and Billy jack Bitch in the same sessions.

It's always possible that 319 was written earlier, there's just
no confirmed record of it existing prior to the recording session
in October 1993. A lot of songs were written a lot earlier than
their release (eg: I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man,
Empty Room, Strange Relationship, Tick Tick Bang etc.) so it
may be true.

I always thought that 319 was a 1989 track too. If you listen to not only the horn section, but the guitar. That is a distinct guitar sound Prince used in 1989 and only 1989. It really sounds like the guitar solo from Batdance.
