Why does everyone like "Sometimes it Snows in April?"

It's like, the song is great and everything, possibly one of Prince's best acoustic ballads. But why is it his most popualr track amongst is fans??? How does this out of all tracks beat 1999, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, 17 Days, etc.?

I say this because I saw it in an online poll a while ago. So, can someone explain this to me?

Personally, I have a very "close" relationship 2 this song. It perfectly xpresses a period in my life that was very important 2 me, and still is.
I won't tell what happened xactly, but this song makes me cry every time I hear it and it's not accidentaly.

It's heartbreaking, the story, the melody, the vocals.

Just listen very carefully 2 it, and notice Prince's voice. He's singing as if he was crying over a lost lover (which, in the song, he actually is).
Then, notice the lyrics; No one could cry the way my Tracy cried
Now, that can move even the coldest heart.

I don't understand why U say that it's one of the most popular songs among his fans. Many fans love "When Doves Cry" and "1999", but maybe because they're danceable tracks with a good beat. "When Doves cry" has outstanding lyrics, so that's no wonder it's popular.
And I'm sure that many fans, out of all the ballads and love songs Prince has every written, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World or Pink Cashmere.

I like it but I rarely listen to it

It has some beautiful and sensitive lyrics but musically I´ve always thought it is just too simple

I don't know why, but if we speak about ballads, it's one of my favourites, the lyrics are wonderful, and the music is very pretty (yes, I know Lisa and Wendy composed the whole song or at least a big part).
I feel more or less the same when I listen to When we're dancing close and slow, Baby, With U, So Blue, Venus de Milo, and more.

I never ever liked this song. That changed with the ONA concert. Prince played the first 2 strokes of the keys on this song and the crowd flipped out. I turned to the crowd and saw this girl in an instant sob. It hit her that hard and that fast. After that I gave the song a chance and understood that this is one of those songs that speaks to people and for that I will honor and respect it nod

Like I said, I saw this in a poll somewhere and it said that that one was the most popualr amongst the fans. Now I can't say that it's true, but if that is the case, then I'd like to know why?

And goddamn did I get some quick responses. big grin

A truly amazing song about losing someone you love. The lyrics are some of his best.

Check this, I'm a melancholy person myself lol so I guess you could say I lean mo' 2ward the dramatic music but DAMN that song is just deepbluedepressing.

The whole production feel is pretty dramatic but I'll give him the credit 4 making it work with the soundtrack(he SHO did make it personal).

I also heard that Wendy & Lisa co-written it but their credit got,,,well, ya know what happend lol!

Well I wouldn't say it's depressing. In fact I think the song sounds beautiful and the keys that the song are in signify a sound of some hope within the grief.
It's kinda like this band that I love called the Cure...

The big stereotype about that band is that their music is depressing. But the thing is, the music is beautiful and they usually sing abot love and stuff. It just has a mystical, dark, soundscape to it. Goth rock, my ass.

You wanna hear depressing? Go listen to the Backstreet Boys.

If we were more honest, we would admit that the song is kind of cheesy. Good cheese, but cheesy.

If you want a great acoustic ballad, how about Circle Of Amour, or So Blue?

didnt what happen was...that...umm...they got credit for what they wrote? im sure the music is attributed to wendy and lisa, and prince the lyrics. in fact ,lookng at the cd i think its one of the songs credited to prince and the revolution. so fair enough right?

ps yes i love this song, when i first heard it i thought this is the first time ive heard a song as emotionally brilliant as jealous guy. still think that. plus, prince says its fictional? does he? oe is it just people pointing out christopher tracy is a character in a film? cos on the ONA DVD he hits his heart when he says a whole lot better off than the fools he left here. sounds personal

I like this song because it is a song that could thought of as a song for a lost someone anyone grandma girlfriend, a friend period its a song for a lost friend

he died after a long fought civil war
I don't think the civil war is in acctuality but a fight with ones self thier inner demons

spring time always reminds me of people that have passed in my life maybe because it happens in the winter or early spring for me

it makes me obviously think of new life in spring and then I think what about them those that have left us, because of the new life that is going on with or without them

Because is one of the few songs that will make You feel "somenthing" deep. The Lyrics and the music goes directly to your heart...you don´´t have to think about..just feel it...that´s what I do and I feel very well when listening to this song...probably quite sad but ...better than before.

Love the version in ONA...
