The overwhelming popularity of the song among those that know it comes from the unique aspect of it that makes the listener feel something deeply. You can fell the sadness and love in that song - in the music - in the lyrics. And it still works after nearly 20 years.

As for the obligatory Wendy and Lisa commnets that always come when Prince music from this era of his career is the topic, I will simply state that Prince has revisited this level of emotion in his music since their departure while - like so many former employees that move on to solo careers after getting started with Prince - the same could not be said of the post-Prince work, in my opinion. However, they have done some good work.

It surely ain't my fave ...

I like Prince for the Funk ... the rest is a bonus ...
The first two albums have great ballads,
"Do me, baby" is Prince's last great ballad.
Over-sentimental crap like "sometimes ..." or "nothing compares 2 u" ... CRAP

That's a song that never did it for me at all. I didn't like it the first time I heard it and I never have. I was very surprised to find out recently how many people love it. Empty Room is another popular song that I can't stand...Condition of the Heart too...I like Prince's slow songs, but those all suck.

I love the song. I was born in April and it was snowing that day.

That's weird, some people would argue that it's his first great ballad

Personally I dont see the fascination with 'Joy in Repetition' but that's 4 another thread. 'Sometimes it Snows in April' great song, but not 1 of my faves.

It's like, the song is great and everything, possibly one of Prince's best acoustic ballads. But why is it his most popualr track amongst is fans??? How does this out of all tracks beat 1999, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, 17 Days, etc.?

I say this because I saw it in an online poll a while ago. So, can someone explain this to me?

sometimesitsnowsinapril is remarkable

it draws u into the heartbreak

of suffering and loss

it allows u 2 share personal

pain and spiritual endurance

his vocals go straight 2 the soul

sorrowful yet wonderful

I wish he would've revamped it for "The Truth" or "One nite alone solo". Probably wouldn't have been the same without Wendy or Lisa, though I wouldn't have wanted to hear a carbon copy. On second thought never mind, I just thought about the way He butchered "Old Friends For Sale" on "The Vault".
