Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

Today is Rave's 4 year anniversary of release. Now, I know a lot of you like to poopoo this album at every opportunity but I have to ask, how could you hate the album that has "Prettyman", "Man O War", and "The Sun, The Moon, And Stars" on it? So for today let's just show our love for 'Rave' even if it's only for just 1 song.

Let's hear it for track 4, a bit short at 4 seconds, but at least the music and lyrics compliment each other perfectly.
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Well, it's difficult to me. I think Rave is a failed experiment, and it's not one of my fav albums (if I think about Rave, Everyday is a..., So far so pleased, Baby knows...), but when I hear Pretty man (so funky), the lyrics of Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do, Strange But True, and other things, I recognize is a very interesting album, not as bad as many people say.

As with 'Emancipation' the good outweighs the bad on 'Rave'

The Good:
I Love u But I don't Trust U Anymore
Strange But True
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
Prettyman
Man O' War
The Sun, The Moon, And Stars
Tangerine
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic
So Far, So Pleased

The Bad
Everyday Is A Winding Road

The 'I'm not quite sure':
Baby Knows
Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do
Undisputed
Silly Game
pray love is god, god is love, girls and boys love god above pray

I really like Rave, sure it's no Lovesexy but if went by that my Prince cd collection would half the size it is. I'll bet if Prince showed up at your house (which isn't impossible anymore these days) and asked you to bust out Rave most the people on here would be praising the shit out of it. lol

I love Baby Knows, it sounds like a cross between Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" and your typical Rolling Stones rock song. A little cheesy, but pure musical candy.

"Man o' War" and "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore" are modern day Prince masterpieces.

For those three reasons, and a few more, Rave is a pretty good album (at least by other artists' standards).

It's one of my least favorite Prince albums but it's okay.
Here's how I see it:
Rave-- his voice annoys me on that one
Undisputed-- just not a good song
TGRES-- too slick, boring R&B
Hot Wit U-- it's okay
Tangerine-- short but sweet
Sun,Moon, and Stars-- aside from the terrible wannabe Carribean/reggae flavor it's okay
Everyday's A Winding Road-- I like it.
Man O' War-- it's okay but something's missing
I Love U but I don't Trust U anymore-- that's what's missing. A little more Ani wouldn't have hurt though. wink
Strange But True/Beautiful Strange-- best track on the record in either case.
Silly Game-- pathetic, whiny waste of disc space lol
Baby Knows-- kinda reminds me of Shy in that I am quite indifferent to it. Filler is what I call it.
Wherever you go, Whatever you do-- I like it. It's not great and isn't a strong way to close your so-called comeback album but it's listenable
Prettyman-- a cool song, nothing to get excited about though.

All in all I like the album but it doesn't get a lot of spins because I have many cds that I prefer to this one.

I've been waiting for this cd to turn up in the cheap bins, but it is just gone. No shops I've been to have it any more. I don't want to pay full price for this but it's the only album missing from my collection. My ISP (thru work) filters out e-bay, otherwise I imagine I could still buy it there? sad

This album is sllloowwwly growing on me, thanks mostly to the Rave IN2 remix disc, which I think is WAY superior to Rave UN2. Some songs still bug the crap out of me - the Cheryl Crow song is horrendous, TGRES bores the crap outta me, Silly Game gives me a migrane...but there's something under the surface of that album that's very interesting, I'll grantcha that...
