Prince ... keep your hands of "whole lotta love"

Damned ... what is he thinking?
What an awful version is that ...

Led Zeppelin's original version is far superior
Prince's version sounds like a "Weird al Yankavic" one.

One more prove Prince can't play rock ... and his voice really can't handle this one!

Sorry to all members of the Prince-clan ...
but you still wonder why Jimi Page is higher on the guitarist top 100 ???
and Robert Plant knows the limitations of his voice.

For the young Prince-fans, who haven't heard LZ ...
how is that possible?

I truly wish Prince hired a second guitarist, so he can do what he can do best:
jam on that guitar!

I love Zeppelin, and I don't think there is anything wrong with this cover.

It got a bit out of there I know, when he pretended to be shocked at the sound of his guitar, and the synth guitar backings can be a little bit cheesy, but I enjoy the song, and there's nothing wrong with the voice either.

Prince is an original artist with a lot of talent, and I am totally accepting of his attempts at covering other songs. If you want to complain about shitty rock covers, take a listen to Avril Lavigne. I think you'll find we don't have much to complain about here.

Indeed ... but I'm on a Prince-fansite ...
that meens I'm a Prince-fan, and I truly am.
So, me expectations are always high ...
I was excited to hear this version. In fact, this was the first time I was excited since years ...

This version has no Prince-quality! Led rules, and Prince fucked it up.
I'm talkin'about "A Whole Lotta Love 4 Paris" which is indeed a very good gig, except ...

nod

I'm not a Zepplin fan and know little of their work, of course their original is better, but I really enjoyed Prince's version live last year on the ONA tour, I thought it was a great addition to the show, although I guess I'd rather see him tear it up on Bambi or The Same December or something of his own smile

personally i prefer princes version. and im not an obsessive prince fan who loves everything hes ever done. and i do like led zeppelin, and have four of their albums. but personally i dont think whole lotta love is a great song when they do it, the shit in the middle is just boring until it gets back to the solo, at least princes version is more focussed, plus i think his voice suits is really well

At least Prince credits the song as a cover. Whereas Led Zep themselves just copied You Need Loving by the Small faces and gave it another title. I am not kidding. Search it out, listen to it and tell me I'm wrong. Same lyrics, same riff, same psychedelic yelping middle bit and everything. Man was I disillusioned when I heard it! sad

Interestingly I remember reading an interview (or seeing an interview) once where Jimi Page said he really rated Prince as one of the best guitarists of his generation.
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

It's only a cover and it's Prince's interpretation of the song. Of course it's not going to sound like Led Zep, but that the point.

Did Tom Jones cover of Kiss sound like Prince's Kiss? Hell no, but it was Jones's take on the cover. I love Led Zep and I think Prince's version was good. Once again,it's the artist take on the song.

And not just that song either. I listen to them and can see how Prince must have been influenced a lot by them, so that's why I can't understand how someone can like Prince, and not be a Zeppelin fan. confuse

Led Zeppelin rocks! headbang

I personally dig it and it's kind of exciting when he rocks out on something that big. Not my favorite (not even my favorite cover of his as I really dig the unpopular and hated "La, La, La Means I Love You") but it's pretty good.

Its a very good cover, in my opinion (though, the version I heard at London's Hammersmith Apollo was far better than the LV version). Just the right amount of psychedlia and I think Prince's voice really suits. Where Plant was about up-front machismo, Prince is more elusive, mysterious and evocative.

In don't think you can say one is better than the other - they're both very different trips.

Did you ever hear the version of "Whole Lotta Love" he
played at the Celebration last year.

That one's out of this world. I also thought the take
of it on the live DVD was a bit watered down and less
in your face.

But the Celebration version, 10minutes48seconds, is
just maddening. It rocks so incredibly hard and it's
so intense. I just can't get enough of it.

Love Zep and Prince.

Loved the cover.

Wish he'd gone a bit more nuts with the axe at the end, instead of just posing with it - but P could do a whole show of Zeppelin covers and I'd be happy.

If you don't like Led Zeppelin, you don't like rock n roll.

I'm kinda partial to Willie Dixon's "You Need Love" over both of them. It's the original.

The version on the NightTown bootleg is phenomenal. The version I heard recorded from the Celebration a couple years ago is awful.
