Herbie would make Prince look even more pale... I think he is just too skilled for the little brotha... but maybe I am too much thinking in terms of Jazz!

Herbie is hands-down the winner if it were a jam of pianos, but I think it would still be cool if they did a jam session in general.

Oh it would be cool... it would be better than the work with Miles, cuz herbie is more down to earth.

Herbie covered Thieves in the Temple with pieces of Strollin' if memory serves.

The funny thing is that in the liner notes he said that while Miles Davis thought Prince was a genious, he (Herbie) listened to his catalogue and he didn't know what Miles was talking about lol but he was able to find two great melodies.

I think it may have been the liner notes to a box set or something that included a book. I don't have the actual box, but I DEFINATELY remember reading something to that effect as I thought it was funny.

Gosh, its amazing how easily people on this site put Prince next to Herbie, Miles, Coltrane, etc. lol

I do remember Herbie mentioning Prince just before playing "Thieves In The Temple" in Montreux, on July 14, 1997. He said something like "Do you like Prince? We do."

While "Soulpower" seems a little obsessed with who's "better", Harlepolis' point was that she'd like 2 see them collaborate on something...
THIS is what music's about... not who's "better".
Besides, it's like the apples and oranges thing...

I had dinner with Herbie a few months back (in Anaheim, CA), and it was cool 2 check his vibe. He thinks quickly, like a Gemini, and the thoughts, eyes, and words change up (and move) nearly constantly. Quite an eccentric brotha himself. I grew up listening the '70s Herbie, usually with the Headhunters... The direction that Prince has taken (NEWS and Xpectation) has been reminding me of that era of music...

Peace.

I am not obsessed with "Who`s better". In fact, I am constantly arguing against these "Prince is greater than anybody" threads.
My point was simply that Herbie`s style is very sophisticated, almost unbeatable. Prince is not a Jazz pianist. A one-on-one session could be embarassing for Prince.
However, if these two guys go in the studio together and cut an entire album together... it might be the bomb!

Very true. Some of Prince`s recent stuff sounds a lot like the style of "Survival of the Fittest". Like I said, I would favor a group effort with him and Prince like that as well.

Hey Soulpower...

agreed... most definately.

and an album together would B funky as all get out...

SIDE NOTE:
Prince's main instrument (as a youth) must have been the piano. I often wonder what a great jazz pianist P woulda' been, if he didn't learn so many other instruments. He plays them all extremely well, and has even influenced drummers and Bass players with his style.

Peace.
