When did you last hear a Prince song played in public?

And what was the reaction?

For me, it was hearing Gett Off in a bar in Salem, Massachusetts last night, after visiting a Halloween Haunted House. The DJ played it and people loved it - of course I heard people talking about it like it must be new music...

I'd forgotten how good that track is - that's one that needs to be played loud.

It was that time I went to the supermarket and whilst I was
fingering some courgettes, all of a sudden out of nowhere,
I heard the intro to "Rockhard In A Funky Place".

They had national radio [3FM] on, so it was nation wide. I
was just standing there with my fist clutched round this
enormous courgette and said in a halfloud voice:

"I just hate to see an erection go to waste..."

Got me some strange looks, but hey, they played a song from
the Black Album on the radio.

And a few months ago I was in town doing some shopping,
walking along the sidewalk when I came up to this car
and thought "I know that song? wait a minute..."

And it was "Return Of The Bumpsquad". So, once again,
[probably due to my prescription drugs] I acted without
thinking and yelled out "Move N*gger!!" [as in the segue
that precedes the song on Exodus].

Whilst I yelled that, I looked into the car, and saw this
huge black dude staring back at me.

Oh oh. I thought "now I'm gonna get my skinny little ass
whooped like it's never been whooped before in 25 years"

But dude was cool, he just laughed and said "You know
the album?" and I was just nodding my head, backing off
slowly, saying "fantastic joint, killer album, I love all
his new stuff. Gotta run!"

Last night at a trendy restaurant in NY, they played "Thieves in the Temple" the house mix. Kinda surprised.

I've heard quite a lot of Prince songs on the radio in recent months. BTW, did anyone listen to the so-called tribute day on Radio 1 Xtra?? What a pile of shite!!! The last time I heard a P song was Wednesday. I was in a clothes shop and I heard "Gold" on the radio. I was shocked to say the least.

I was at the air force base north of Detroit at the base exchange and the sound system played Thieves In The Temple. Totally took me by surprise. Sung a few bars while I walked through the store to the check-out aisle. Brought a smile to my face. ..

we went into one bar and they had the very best on. i asked the barwomen who put it on and they were like why whats your problem with it?! and i said no i love it but they didnt seem to actually care for it so i assume someone else had it on. anyway i was loving it and i could see people across the room bobbing their heads to it! butthen the bitches turned it off and put some shit on, and the people across the room stopped bobbing anf left about 10mins later! ha!

a mate who was there with me said he heard prince at an off license later that week

and we went on a booze cruise recently (you pay 20quid then drink all you can, and yorue on a boat) and i got U got the look played, the dancefloor emptied i honestly wanted to scream! it was so annoying, it was cos it was full of first year uni students in their first term so they didnt have the balls to dance to something that wasnt really "cool" and they didnt know, even if it was funky and cool! bastards.

I'm surprised that no one inserted a NEWS/elevator comment yet.

Extraordinary restraint on their part.
