What if? The Black Album had been released back in the 80's? I know it'as an old chestnut, but how do you think things would have gone if he'd released 'The Black Album' instead of 'Lovesexy'? it wouldn't have been released in the 90's sorry couldnt resist it ... ps it would have saved me a lot of money i bought 5 bootlegs 2 on cassette 3 on vinyl all 5 were shite quality. i even used 2 listen 2 a tape which was the wrong speed but still liked it !!! I had a boot around the time it was due to be released. It really didn't feel right following up SOTT. MDMA or not, I think it was wise to recall it.

i think that it would have been more exciting/daring to have released the Camille album to see if he could have gotten away with it. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It was the first bootleg I ever purchased...
I do think that by not releasing it, he opened his fans' eyes to the possibilities of buying unreleased material. I never realised there were other bootlegs out there until I purchased The Black Album on cassette (and then vinyl) back in 1988. He unwittingly opened the floodgates, I think.

I agree, and I agree with an earlier statement that it would have sucked to come behind SOTT...

Why the barfface? I think it's not worthy of his 80s output at all. It's my third least favorite Prince album. Plus, we would not have gotten "Lovesexy."

I don't listen to it but maybe once every other year, but it's got some decent tracks. "Lovesexy" is timeless, though.
