Looks like I beat Dansa this time! 24 years since Prince released his second album! come on in and sing it's praises. One of my favorite song on this album is "It's Gonna Be Lonely". I love the harmonies on this to death. How 'bout you?

dang, haven't even mentioned how i feel about this album. testimonial time, grab a drink:

i got a hold of the prince album about 4 years ago. before that i had first heard "i wanna be your lover" on the hits/the b-sides and immediately fell in love with the track. to this day it's my official 'happy song'. dancing jig

not too long after that i went ahead and got the prince album on cd--the record store i bought it from didn't have it in stock, so i went and ordered it through the store. i had heard the first two tracks from the hits, so as soon as "wywtmsb?" went off i wuz lookin at the track list..."sexy dancer" wuz about to play. i'd never even heard of the song prior to that so i wuz like, "what's this?"

first two notes played...song started off...heard the bassline...i wuz just like omg!!! the bassline wuz what sealed the deal for me. it wuz just ova. i fell in love instantly with "sd". i wuz kinna disappointed that the album version wuz so short...i remember thinkin after the first time hearin it, "this is not the kinna song that's only 4 minutes long! there's gotta be a longer version somewhere, and i want it!" sure enough, i found out about the 12" version and got a hold of it not too soon afterwards. "sd" is one of my fave cuts on the album and of all time--i love it so much it's my main org moniker (Dansa, eheh).

the ballads on here are o-tay too--"it's gonna be lonely" is my fave outta all of 'em. "still waiting" sorta gives the feelin that the cat wuz just desperate and in need of a sympathy fuck or two. evillol that's the thing about this whole album, too: seemed like ol' boy wuz in need of some serious ass at the time or sumfin. the whole concept of the album leaves you feelin like a cross between feelin sorry for p and wantin to slap the chit outta 'im so he'd stop cryin. lol

the only track off of here i really don't care for is "with you"...beautiful song but it's just so...so...saccharine and sappy. barf luckily "bambi" is right after it, so it saves the day. omg..."bambi" just kix ass majorica. "she's gettin more pussy than i am, it ain't fair!!!" mr.green

and without a doubt, 1979 had to have been like the worst year for p, fashion-wise. don't get me wrong--the ghetto-fabulous farrah fawcett/porn star hairdo he wuz rockin wuz the most, but like....shorts and suspenders? them gold boots? that butt-ugly vest he rocked in the video for "wywtmsb?"? oh lawd....the only cute outfit he had at the time wuz the outfit he wore in the 2nd version of the "iwbyl" video. i'd rock that. giggle

...and there it is. geek

Here's a story about how I first got ahold of the 'Prince' album. It's an excerpt from the story of my life as it relates to Prince. It takes place on Christmas day of 1985.

Words can not describe how I felt at that moment. Not only had I just been given my first portable cassette player, and a Sony Wlakman at that, but I had also just received my first two Prince tapes, which would unwittingly become the foundation of my music collection (until 1993).

It wasn't over yet there was one more surprise in store for me. Grandma had an ace up her sleeve. She lead me to grandpa's room, the same room in which was hidden the guitar also held another secret. She opened the top drawer of his wall-length dresser nearest the door. She reached in and pulled out another cassette, this one however was already free from it's confines. It was a Prince tape but one I had never seen before nor knew that it even existed. "Here I got this for you, is he the one you like?" grandma asked me as she handed me the cassette. I read the title and looked at the cover. Seeing that the name on it was Prince I confirmed that yes he was the one but he looked a lot different on this one then I was accustomed to. Oh well who cares, another Prince tape! Three in one day! What a great Christmas!

It was his second album that she had gotten for me which for a few months I believed to be his first. A day or so later, as I was sitting on the couch in the living room by myself, I would give it it's first listen...for about 30 seconds. The music started off really good and everything was cool until he started singing; "I ain't got no money". Upon hearing him sing for the first time in a falsetto voice I said out loud "that's not Prince" and immediately shut it off. I believe I then changed it out for one of my other two tapes, I'm thinking "Purple Rain", but not sure. This was safer, familiar ground and couldn't go wrong. It would be a few weeks before I would give "Prince" a second chance and fall in love all over again.

First got this album a couple of years ago. I was only familiar with "I Wanna Be Your Lover", and I knew Chaka's version of "I Feel For You".

My faves are IWBYL, "It's Gonna Be Lonely", "Bambi" and "Sexy Dancer". The weak tracks are the ballads.

Yet again, I'm reminded of how old I am. smile Looking back it's hard to believe that I wasn't feelin' "I wanna be your lover" when it first came out. Maybe that's because I didn't feel "Soft & Wet" when it first came out. Anyway, it took "Sexy Dancer" to make me see the light. Guess I have this album to thank for turning me into a Prince fan. (My first org avatar was of black-leather-press-n-curl Prince.) biggrin

HAPPY BIRTHDAY worship Prince. worship

"It's Gonna Be Lonely" is the best track on this joint

This album cover was the first I had ever seen of Prince. I was 13 years old, looking at albums at the Air Force Base Exchange at Hahn Air Base. I pulled up this lp, thought "Hmm wonder who this is?" My dad walked up behind me and said..."Don't even think about it."

Sometimes I wonder how I woulda turned out if I hadn't been so obedient. heh heh
I'm firmly planted in denial
