Rose Ann Dimalanta, a.k.a rad., grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and began playing piano at the age of 4. 1990 she completed her jazz studies at U.C. Berkeley. The West Coast music scene quickly got hip to rad.'s latin jazz chops and she was soon playing with legendary musicians like Pete Escovedo, Benny Velarde (Cal Tjader), Orestes Vilató (Santana), Ray Obiedo and David Garibaldi among others. Her move to Europe in 1991 marked the beginning of her solo career. With the encouragement of her husband and producer Michael Kirsch, rad. became Rose Ann's solo project, a funk show spiced with latin flavors.

The debut LP "radified" (1992) catapulted rad. into the spotlight. Its hit single "Wishy" featured on the now classic "Soulciety Funky Family Compilation I" took European dancefloor charts by storm and received "Album of the Month" awards in many prominent music publications throughout Europe. "Gotta Be" (1994), the second release, was praised by critics, DJ's and fans alike. It’s release in Japan put the track "Venus Drops" (featuring the Tower of Power Horns) into the Japanese Billboard Radio charts. Guest appearances on "Gotta Be" by Tower of Power, funk legend Roger Troutman (Zapp), England's Galliano posse, and respected Jazz heavies like Howard Johnson (Miles Davis, Carla Bley) broadened her musical acceptance beyond dance, r&b, and jazz audiences. Not long after, New York label Instinct Records released the track "Time to Change" from the first album, making it a local radio hit in the SF Bay Area, becoming the most requested song on KBLX for several weeks and also winning her fans throughout the East Coast and Canada. In 1997 rad. returned to the San Francisco Bay Area and commenced recording third CD entitled "Higher Plane", at the legendary Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, featuring an all-star cast including David Garibaldi on drums, Bobby Vega (Sly Stone) on bass, and Mark Russo (Yellowjackets) on saxophone. Her latest studio album, Make Every Second Count (2001) is a return to her rough funk sensibilties and features her current live band that includes Ray Obiedo, David Garibaldi, Marc van Wageningen. In 2002 a French team produced a concert film of rad. live in Paris for French television. A live CD of the same concert, "rad. - Live at the New Morning, Paris" is scheduled for release in November 2003.

Live: Known for delivering electrifying live performances with her band, rad. has repeatedly sold out London's Jazz Café and Paris' Hot Brass Club, and has shared the stage with such luminaries as Incognito, Maceo Parker, Carleen Anderson, Raw Stylus, and ex-James Brown's right hand man Bobby Byrd. In 1995, she performed in San Francisco for the United Nations 50th Anniversary Celebration-Festival and co-hosted the popular "Groove" show on Euro-VH1. In 2002 rad. played extensively with drummer Sheila E. including performances with Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Wendy & Lisa, Mick Fleetwood and grammy award winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams.

I'll have to take your word for it. Otherwise I would have to guess Prince, his cousin Wanda, his mecahnic, the guy who lives next door, and some girl he picked up on the way to the photo shoot.

That's HK currency. I believe someone on the NPGMC message board converted it to US dollars and it works out to this:

- places A > 988 HK$ (128 US$)
- places B > 758 HK$ (98 US$)
- places C > 488 HK$ (63 US$)
- places D > 258 HK$ (33 US$)

What do you reckon, is $128 too much for the front seats? I've paid it, but that's because I'm flying on from Singapore so may as well get myself a good seat!

We paid $150 for the front row tix in NYC. And it *was* well worth it!
