If you were a Hall of Fame judge would u vote for Prince?.

My first reaction on hearing the news was of course positive and laced with a big 'about time he got some props' comment. But looking at how much he has criticised the industry [rightly or wrongly] don't you think he would be a hypocrit to accept. If i was a judge i would reluctantly NOT vote for him. what about you?.

And that's where politics comes in...regardless of musical merits.

Thank you, Dansa.

There are politics involved with just about every mainstream awards show (AMA's, Grammys, Oscars), every mainstream radio station (legal payola), every major label's business dealings, etc. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is no different. It's not a perfect world, so it's not ONLY about musical merit. It's not fair, it's just the reality of the situation.

Yes, of course I would vote for him. He deserve it more than all the others that are up for it. Take George Harrison (no offence to him) - what has he done as a solo artist that he deserves to get in with his first nomination? He was accused of plagiarism many years ago and I believe he lost that case too. IMO he hasn't done anything even close to what Prince has done. He was great with the Beatles but on his own he does not stand out as anything wow as far as I can see. If they let any of this years nominees in and not Prince, something is definitely fucked up.

Harrison will get in BECAUSE he was a Beatle.

Here's where the Harrison fans have a cow...

Yes, you're probably right and it's unfortunate because he's already in with the Beatles. Don't get me wrong, I love the Fabs and I'm a big fan, but George as a solo artist never interested me at all and neither does Ringo. I love Paul and John as solo artists, but the other two were not great IMO.

Soley due to the way that Prince treats his fans..
and not due to way he has damaged his legacy..

If I were a judge I might hesitate a bit.

rolleyes

What this has to do with Prince is immaterial and irrelevant. Just purely a matter of conincidence they're on the ballot at the same time.

All 4 Beatles will get into the Hall as solo artists. Even Ringo. Harrison (solo) most definitely gets in the hall. All Things Must Pass is still a monumental album, despite the paltry findings in that plagirism suit. You don't see it, but by your post you don't come off as very well informed on this matter.

If I was judge, I'd be expected to assess which of the nominees is / are (I believe you can vote for more than one of the nominees under the rules) most deserving of being awarded entry based on the Hall of Fame's criteria. I'd expect the criteria to be along the lines of the degree to which the nominee has contributed in terms of music and / or performance. I'd also be surprised if one of the criterion was to consider how much the nominee has conformed to industry norms / expectations. If I'm broadly right, then I'd think Prince has every chance of receiving votes. Of course, there might be some judges who take into consideration factors which really have no bearing on his musicianship or performing skills, but you weren't asking what you think the judges will do (irrespective of the rules), but rather what we would do. I'd vote for Prince.

I have nothing against Harrison, or the Beatles. But without the context of the Beatles I doubt the Hall would let him in based on ALL of his solo work.

The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has nothing to do with the industry. It is an award the recognizes a body of work. Prince more than qualifies for this honor. What a dumb ass question.

YES, I would definately give prince MY vote. That WB fiasco was a unique & trend setting idea coming from the genius of prince. It will NOT be in ANY way at all fair if they use THAT 2 blow him off!!!He would definately not be hypocritical at all to accept, as he had his reasons 4 what he did with WB, and he still has not really achieved what he set out to. IMO, it was no skin off their noses for WB 2 make a "deal" with prince to get his masters back. Artists deserve their masters! If prince made a deal with warners ( & he did ) in the start of his career it was because he was naive' and young, & zealous as any artist just starting out would be & warner takes advantage of this. Sure, they helped him too, but later on as prince learned more about the music industry & got smart, they werent cooperative. Prince was. IF he gets blown off 4 this, HE should be glad he isnt even included in that gild, but for God's sake, ACCEPT IT PRINCE, IF U R OFFERED IT! U MORE than DESERVE IT 4 all ur hard work u did and STILL do. The others up 4 it are good, and deserving, but NOT AS MUCH AS U! GOOD LUCK!
