I remember leaving that movie (yeah I admit it I paid to see that trash) and rushing to the Wrecka Stow to buy the Showgirls Soundtrack after hearing the songs in the movie. And was very pissed that the Prince songs weren't on the CD.
Why weren't these songs on the soundtrack? Does anyone know???

Why weren't these songs on the soundtrack? Does anyone know??? It's all tied up with record company wrangling. Prince could give music to a movie without compromising his rights to the masters etc. For the tracks to appear on the soundtrack album he would have had to go through Warners, and they would then have owned the masters under his contract at the time. Also, if the soundtrack wasn't produced by a Warner company, then they would have sought some kind of deal for allowing the songs to be used (a percentage of sales, or a one off payment). This all costs the soundtrack makers money, and sometimes they just can't afford to licence all the tracks from the movie and still make it financially viable.
