Actually, and i hate to say this- but what the hell...
There IS an album already finished and it's NOT an intrumental album.
I know this from someone who works for him (gawd, as i'm writing this i realize what a load of BS this must sound like), but there is no release date that i'm aware of. Only other tidbit is that just before the realease of NEWS i was told the packaging had already been done for the new album. So maybe the wait won't be too long. Oh and the only other thing i know for sure (at least this was the case at the time i was told this) is that "reflections" is one of the songs on there and it's NOT any kind of a concept album...just sort of a mish-mash of stuff.

O.K.- That's ALL i know right now...ya dig?!

Sounds good. Still, albums get cancelled at the last minute with P (Black, High etc.) so who really knows? Like the man said, I'll believe it when it's in my CD player (or on the .org front page!!)

Funny, I just listened to Reflection again, and I quite like it. It's grown up, retro, contemplative.

I also wonder what this deal with UMPG is going to...

We'll see in the next few months I guess.

I've always preferred quality over quantity. Prince used to be able to produce both, but oh well.

Does anybody have a memory? The NPGMC made it fairly clear that the next album project would be a 2004 release by posting the question "...what should the title of Prince's 2004 release be?" Remember?

hmmm...well this year has been a fairly good year for releases. i remember back in the spring when there was talk of a new album in June. NEWS popped in June. and then there was talk of the DVD in august and voila, there it was in August.
maybe he's has been some effort into getting his releases out on time. maybe handing over release and retail duties to musictoday.com has paid off.
but let's just wait and see.

This is like Wag The Dog, I swear. They asked us this question at the NPGMC U Tell Us forum in June. Believe whatever you want. Believe that it's '..2 7s..' instead of 'servants'...whatever. I'm done.

Reflection being very weak (at least as far as production is concerned), I'm in no hurry

To get any hit with a "normal" album, Prince needs to sound differently, that's the point in having a producer (Neptunes, Outkast, Dre, Questlove: many prince fans, possibilities). True, for the first time in ages, he found a raw, "live" sound with TRC, ONA and NEWS, which I dig. But that will not lead him to pop-R&B charts (well, who cares), and that will produce sub-standard pop songs if he does not stick to it (which is more of a problem: see Reflection).

In other words, either he finally realises that his sound is completely out-dated and finds himself a real modern producer, either he sticks to his recent sound which could also produce a great album. There is nothing in between, except Rave or Newpowersoul, that (OK, with some exceptions) pathetic-out-of-date BS.

I hope Prince will NEVER again try to get a chart success, and certainly not by having his albums produced by the people you just named.

I'm glad he finally seems to have figured this out himself by returning to the true live and organic sound of his oldest songs and his live concerts. Nothing sounds as good as the studio songs that could well have been performed live imho. This raw feel was there in Prince's first records (Bambi, When You Were Mine), and trhoughout his career. His most memorable songs have this live feel to them (The Cross, I Could Never, Let's Go Crazy, Nothing Compares, Adore, The Ladder, Cream, Diamonds And Pearls, Strollin', etc etc etc)

This to me is also the best thing of his recent output. He went back to decent songs with simple instrumentation (no drum programming etc). It was already apparent in the High tracks. Although there were many drum computers in there, Vavoom, U Make My Sun Shine, When Will We B Paid, Underneath The Cream, Supercute, When I Lay My Hands On U, ... they all sound decent! (my opinion of course) I love his recent output, especially since TRC, because of this organic sound. Then we had ONA...Live!, with Renato's keys adding to the overall sound.

Hopefully we will get an album with the present NPG. I can only imagine what a studio version of Xenophobia or U Want Me could sound like with horns and Renato's keys.

!!NEWSFLASH - PAY ATTENTION!!

I just called my friend Prince directly on my purple Org telephone hotline. He said he's been making new music recently and plans to release some of it in the future, probably on a CD.

Exciting, isn't it!? Pass it on!

let's not speculate what a new Prince album is gonna sound like. everything since Rave has sounded a little different from each other but let's hope it's real good yeah?

Im thinking we're due a new album. Its been two years since the Rainbow Children, over a year since one night alone (which he pretty much recorded at the same time). Ok we've had Xpectation, ONA Live, and NEWS, but even prince isnt foolish enough to believe these constitute proper albums. In the past these have always constituted as side projects (madhouse etc), so i dont see why that would change.

Hopefully prince has realised to release an album of songs a year is too much for him now, and that to produce a quality album he needs to take his time over it. There was a two year gap between Rave... and The Rainbow Children. OK he released music through NPGMC, but it was clearly stuff he didnt consider worthy of being on an album.

I personally love the sound of the NPG now, and wouldnt want him to try to break the pop charts again. He's clearly excited by making music again, and hopefully this will rub off on the new record. New Power Soul and Rave... et al sounded like an artist going through the motions. Everything we've had since points to a revitaised prince.

A new album in november, world tour in 2004, that would suit me fine.
