Purple Rain Australian DVD I am thinking of buying the Australian version of the Purple Rain DVD, but would first like to hear any opinions on it.
I've seen the aspect ratio listed as 1.78:1 - can anybody verify that the DVD is actually wide-screen/anamorphic? Is there anything to note about the quality of the picture or the sound? Is it different, better or worse than the US version? Thanks for any help on this one. I haven't seen the movie in over a decade! Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop. | |

Haven't seen the US version to make a comparison. I'll take another look at it when I get home. One thing it doesn't have is extras, the back of the DVD has a menu screenshot of what i assume is what the US version. Yeah, I realised it doesn't come with extras. But so long the main feature is all there intact and in good quality I'll be happy. So the picture and sound seemed fine to you? (maybe I'm just hesitant from reports of the quality of SOTT and the Aladdin DVDs).
The next problem is to get the DVD into Singapore.. it won't make it through customs if they open the package. DVD censorship here is way overboard. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop. | |

I've got it as well and it's a great transfer. Sound is 5.1 and the picture is really good. |

Yep - the Aussie region 4 DVD of Purple Rain is a rare example of a region 4 title being far superior to the region 1 (US) release. Sound is 5.1 and solid, transfer is nice and most importantly it's widescreen - not 4:3 (fullscreen) as the US release is...but don't pay more than $20 for it or you're getting ripped off   I sincerely want 2 fuck the taste out of your mouth | |

Yeah, checked the box (I call it box because there are 2 region 4 Purple Rain DVD's, the only difference is the packaging from what I can tell. The regular plastic case, or what I have is like a digi pack style case, which has a black snap lock, kinda like the "Space" remixes package. Hope you understand what im getting at).
The back says: Widescreen 1.85:1 It also states 16:9 Transfer Plus lanuages in Dolby Digital 5.1 Hope this helps you in what u are looking for Xperience the Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com/

Sounds like I gotta get the Aussie version of the DVD if it's widecreen and 5.1. Damn the US version all to hell!
Of course, then I'll have to get a region free player... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |
