ATWIAD first listen ouch ! then u get it !!! yes ? i remember rushing out on the 1st day of release and buying around the world in a day, and being really dissapointed on 1st hearing, but then after 4/5 plays i remember thinking to myself wow ! this is really something else what an album.
i would say the whole album is perfect a stonewall classic ! great hit singles rasp beret , pop life songs to make you think the ladder , temptation and what can you say about condition of the heart simply sheer beauty pure prince i'd never heard anything like it = (the album). i still love it to this day. i did the same with london calling by the clash , bought it on day of release thought it was ropey, and now it may well be my favourite album of all time .well non prince album anyway ! what prince albums has anyone else done this with ?

No Prince album has ever been a 'slowburner' 2 me personally with the Xception of The Rainbow Children. On 1st listen, I was kinda annoyed about the voiceover and 'religious' lyrics. However, on a few more listens, Ive really come 2 appreciate the album and think that there is some of the most creative music Prince has ever produced. I remember when I listened to the album. I instantly loved it. It was a little different from Purple Rain, but I liked it anyway. But then again, I pretty much liked anything he produced at that point. Also, I just thought it was the same old Prince funk only more colorful. I had no idea that it was similar to Sgt. Pepper or Pet Sounds. I was only 2 yeard old, so it took me a few years to compare and contrast. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

the only two albums that weren't slow-burners for me were dirty mind and the black album. everything else kinna had to grow on me either track by track or as a whole before i could fully stomach them.

That album is so good, it has many great ideas and arrangements. Prince should have realized this too recently, as in the latest tour he played a lot of stuff from it: Raspberry beret, Pop life, Paisley Park (in the Us), Condition of the heart, The Ladder, Tambourine (a bit at the Marquee), America (a bit in Days of wild sometimes).
I think he has re-discovered Parade too, cheers

This is the one album I can't get into and I can't explain why!!! I love Raspberry Beret, Condition of the Heart, Pop Life but ATWIAD spends very little time in my CD player.
