Songwriting Credits an ASCAP

As we know, many of the protege groups were credited in liner notes as having written songs, when othr accounts and the ASCAP copywrite database say otherwise (e.g. the Family songs, many of the Time and Sheila's songs etc.).

My qustion is if the ASCAP database includes someone as songwriter, do they get financial credit? Cuz Weny & Lisa are credited for songs like Computer Blue, Mountains etc. which sources say they did in fact write part of, but do they get money???

yes.

or... they should be.

Tony and Levi sued him several years ago, because they said he wasn't paying out the royalties to them after he got paid.

i would assume W&L were smart enough to have their own setup independent of Prince for being paid their royalties, unlike Tony and Levi.

As Wendy and Lisa are both registered with ASCAP as songwriters for 'America', 'Computer Blue', '17 Days', 'Mountains', 'Sometimes It Snows In April' and 'Power Fantastic', (and Lisa for 'A Million Miles (I Love You)'), ASCAP will collect and distribute the performance licence monies due to them. Other royalties due to them such as mechanical royalties and print licences might be collected on their behalf through a deal they strike with a music publishing company.
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.
