if it didn't have that damn voice over, it would probably be my number 3, beat only by SOTT and the also slightly flawed parade

Agreed, I make TRC top ten but not top five.

Its gott abe top 5 for tu emusic alone..th e sequencing..the inspiration and passion,...he didnt coast on this one like many many others..it sems liek he took hi s time with these songs and interludes etc..I mean come on yall...I hope some day all the dogma and rhetoric surounding TRC and IN trc can be set aside to see it for its greatness
I totally agree with you on the music. It is perfect. It is sublime. It is great. The bass on this album totally kicks my ass. I am actually sitting here listening to TRC for the first time in two years. Unfortunately, most of my love affair with Prince has been in the words of his songs. I know he probably does not care.

I think he does care...in 1990 discusising Graffiti Bridge he was saying "they finally are listening to my lyrics"

I don't have any grudges against TRC, I enjoy it and don't dwell on the lyrics (At least he's true to his reality as regards subject matter). Just happen to enjoy listening to five or so of his 80s LPs and a couple from the 90s more. TRC's my fav from his 97-03 period anyway. biggrin

if by "loving TRC" you're referring to tofu-raisin casserole, then yes, I love TRC. I adore it. I cannot get enough of it, and I gorge on it and masticate it and thoroughly love every last morsel of it.

That "Rain-blo Chirren" thing, eh - it's okay. Love the instruments on it, and it plays well live.

It is one of Prince's finest albums!! A true masterpiece!!!

I agree with you Dan. I've said it 100 times since it was released. I love it and I believe it is a masterpiece, but I could still do without all religious babble.

Its a classic.
Since Emancipation I have to admit my love for Prince's music had almost gone. The crap he released.i.e Emancipation, NPS, Rave would be enough to dent the belief of any fan that he was still the genius that you always believed him to be.

With TRC it was clear he was and always will be the genius I believed him to be. Its a masterpiece - even including the religious lyrics and weird voice.

As a concept album I believe it to be unsurpassed, for a Prince album it gets fairly close to the zenith of the 86-88 period Parade-SOTT-Lovesexy

In my opinion it is a masterpiece, one of his best.

If there were better lyrics to it and with the Darth Vader voice removed, it would certainly be my favorite Prince album! But it's up there with Dirty Mind and Parade, my other two favorite albums.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

TRC could never be grouped with any Prince album from the 80's. Not even close. Only fams would lump them together.

i love it... put me down for a classic, among classics...

it definitely did what it was intended to do... break new ground for his musical vision and allow his growth as an artist to continue... imo

...and it sounds damn good too.

So have we at prince.org officially dubbed "The Rainbow Children" as a new Prince Masterpiece. On par with "Dirty Mind" "1999" "Purple Rain" and "Sign O the Times"?

Sure. Why not.
