Just got the DVD...... Sigh, what can I say. Its a shocking, shocking document of what was an amazing tour. I dont every want to hear anyone defend prince's management of his career after this monumental fingers up to his fans.
Only the most deluded, blind, deaf and quite frankly stupid fan would defend the release of such an insulting load of shite. Does he get his kicks out of doing things like this to us? I know this is gonna incur a load of people rambling on about how it was my choice to buy it, and Prince can do what he likes ( i agree in part), but this points towards a f**k up of gross proportions. Can anyone answer the question as to why he did it. He has evidently chosen the tracklisting carefully, so what was his motivation behind the inclusion of the songs on it? I can think of these as the only reasons 1) the other performances were so poor he didnt want us to see them? 2) He'd already released most of the tracks on ONA live. 3) Someone in the crowd could be heard swearing profusely through the other performances and so it was against his religion. 4) He couldn't be arsed. Im inclined to go for the latter, but then I actually think it would have taken more effort to edit it as it is, than just release the whole thing. Man he must hate us. Ah well, rant over,

I'm pretty sure that some songs weren't included because there wasn't any decent footage to use.
The fact that there was not one camera on Maceo for his solo on Gotta Broken Heart Again completely ruins the visual element of the song and is, quite frankly, an absurd situation for a professional shoot. Some of those clips of Maceo from the beginning of the show also show how poor some of the early camerawork in the concert was. The camerawork is pretty poor throughout but I've played Gotta Broken Heart Again to people and they immediately say 'what's just happened?' when it cuts to the still photos during Maceo's solo. Personally, I also think that having the pictures in between songs totally ruins the atmosphere of a live show. When Strollin/U Want Me moves straight into Gotta Broken..., it feels much smoother.

Helen Keller knows that the DVD sucks. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

eh.. for nine bucks it wasn't a bad buy.
Nice to see Eric Leeds and Sheila on there. Its hard to believe that the same showman came out with the Sign O the Times video production 15 years ago. The energy levels between the two are miles apart.

I've been a little bit absent from the Prince world lately (nothing much happening) so I missed the launch of this DVD. I've just read the reviews on Amazon... and it sounds ropey.
However it's very hard to separate the comments that come from bitter, twisted Prince fans who hate everything he does and the comments that come from sycophantic tongue-up-his-arse fans who can't seen any faults with anything he does. I'd have to import it from the states so it wouldn't be cheap. I really love that version of Strollin. Is it worth it? I know u people worthless scum give no heart but wrath of insults a brain-driven wave of destruction your bite is worse than your vocabulary. Shame on you all of you. Go feed your pigs coward.

I dont understand this mentality that you have to like everything that prince does to consider yourself a fan. I listen to prince almost every day. I've spent a fortune on bootlegs and 12"'s over the last few years. I've spent a lot of my money on collecting all his albums both on Vinyl and CD. Ive joined a music club that thus far has provided me with one free down load and very little else. I paid £50 to see him in concert last October, almost twice as much as Ive had to pay to see other artists, but I would've paid £100 without question. I AM a Prince fan, a self appointed prince fan maybe, but a fan all the same. I've invested a lot time and money in Prince, and his music has repaid me ten fold, I dont ask anything of him. However, Im also objective enough to recognise that some of the stuff he does is pure shit. If you think everything prince does is amazing, and his work is one vast plateau of genius and brilliance, how do you get truly excited about the stuff that really is amazing? This site is made by the varying opinions we all have on his work, and Id rather have discussions with prince fans who have an opinion on his work, good or bad, rather than blind celebration of everything he does.

Have you not even questioned why he left the stuff off, or do you just passively absorb everything he does, and praise it because its prince. I fucking loved the ONA tour, his best since Lovesexy IMO, and seeing him live for the first time is an experience that I will always remember, but as a document of the tour, this is totally unreflective. It fails on so many levels. And for those of us who saw the tour and wanted a visual reminder of it, it disappoints.

I like the DVD. I was expecting the worse when I read all the rants about the picture quality. It looked to me like it was done that way on purpose to give it a different feel. I esp. like "strollin." To me it's worth it just for strollin, pass the peas, got a broking heart again and sometimes it snows in april. I fastforward some songs, but I also, fastforward some songs on the rave DVD. I don't think that everything that P does is great. I thought NEWS was kinda out there. But I do like this DVD. So I guess that makes me "deluded, blind, deaf and stupid." People have different taste. That doesn't make one persons opinion better than anyone elses. And just because one doesn't agree with you does not make them deluded, blind deaf or stupid. Just my 2%. **************************************************

True, but what happens when he has to stop performing, youll want a visual record of some of those shows and for me this DVD does not suffice. It falls short in many areas when it could have been amazing. Id rather have the DVD in my collection than not, but I AM disappointed with it.

seeing that I have all kinds of bootleg concert videos, offical concert videos, rehearsal videos etc...
I acually really enjoyed the dvd and it is a welcome addtition to my collection... I'm bored with the lovesexy and sign o the times and purple rain and parade concerts, so this is cool to have something different... I also saw him front row on the ona tour so many times that at the celebration when he played the same setlist, me and my friend actually walked outside to take a break... so I like the setlist of this dvd. Prince never ever puts out what I want... his stuff mostly always rubs me the odd way... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I like the DVD too and have shown it to some friends. They all liked it and nobody complained about the video quality. Of course a full length concert would have been better! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
