What's wrong with the new Generations??? All I ever hear around teenagers is Westlife here, Beyonce that, look what Pink's wearing for the MTV Music Awards, wow, Enrique is hot...
Gosh, where's the new power spirit? What can a person do to make young people (my age) see that Prince and people inspired by him are still good - actually better than all this pop-shit that everyone's talkin bout. I respect every artist, no matter what they're doing, but this is fuckin too much. Everywhere I go, I see girls actin like some sexy superstar, shakin that booty like Ashanti, dressin like Christina. What is wrong with young people today? Where's the funk? Why won't they just listen and admit - Prince is good music. Why the hell call him a MF gay-ass instead of listening to what he has to say? Why notice the high heels, his clothes, even the (too) high voice - listen to the lyrics! What to do?? I dunno how bout others, but repeating "ooh baby, shake that booty, let me see U work it, let me see u work it girl" 4 min. nonstop doesn't ring a bell for me. That's not a song, that's a fuckin lack of originality and creativity! Honestly, not to diss any pop-stars, cause they all do what they love (xcept TATU, who do it because they wanna be famous and give fuck to the world because they critisise their sexuality - that's way too childish) and what they believe is good. But when is this hell gonna stop?

I've been asking myself those same questions for years. Even if they don't like Prince enough to wanna listen to him then at least listen to something a little more elevated then the mindless, souless, garbage that is so 'popular' with todays generation.

Have faith, there's lots of cool kids out there. As I tell mine, you just have to find them, even if it's hard. Such kids are simply too cool doing their own thing, living life to follow the herd.
As an example, my 13 year old daughter burnt a CD as a party favor for her Bat Mitzvah with the following: U2 - Pride (in the name of love) U2 - Where the streets have no name Beatles - I’m only sleeping Alanis - Hands clean Herself on guitar - Redemption song (Marley) Cranberries - Zombie Cranberries - Promises New radicals - You get what you give Blondie - Hanging on the telephone Animals - Don't let me be misunderstood Prince - When Doves Cry Prince - Starfish and Coffer Cyndi Lauper - Girls just want to have fun Jimmy eat world - Sweetness Jimmy eat world - Middle Limp Bizkit - ?? Hoobastank - ?? Vertical Horizon - ?? You can quibble with some of the choices, but I think that this is an impressive list for any teen. Anyway, only a few out of 20-25 of her guests really dug the CD, but every one you find is like gold. *****************************************

Hello, HRB. Just curious to know how old you are because I've been wondering if there were any "young" ( 21-ish) Prince fans around. Don't have to answer if you don't want to...respect...

Hi WonHungLo! Well, lot of people ask me that, and I don't mind answering everything I can answer! I'm 14, but "discovered" Prince when I was just turned 13, as much as I remember. There are many people around the 20-30 here, and they're not hard to find. But my age... damn, that is some problems!

I'm a 22 year old fan and agree with you 100%! Soo much of the music out now is solely image-driven and has nothing to do with the actual lyrics of the song. The producers need to be getting ALL the credit for making these artists who they are. I heard the new Beyonce album and the only song on there that would make me want to buy it (or burn it) is "The Closer I Get to You". This is a re-make of Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway that Beyonce did with Luther Vandross. It's really good and, in my opinion, the only song on her album that has any real substance; but, it's a re-make, so of course it's gonna be decent (I liked the original). Anyway, I'm just happy to see that I'm not the only "young" person who thinks that Prince's music is "all that, a bag of chips, a large Coke, and a giant chocolate chip cookie" LOL Well, peace; I'm out SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. I was into Prince at 10 or 11 and have loved him ever since then, so I know where you're coming from with that. Music nowadays is pretty sad. SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. "WYNTER SKYE"

Gosh babes, I feel for U then! Music nowadays is more than sad...it's PATHETIC! Where's Prince when U need him..??!! Hey HRB, I agree with you in terms of music nowadays. But at the same time I try to keep an open ear to what's happening currently. It's great that you have an appreciation for Prince. As for your friends, it's cool. Let 'em listen to whatever it is they like. I believe that good music will stand on it's own and who knows, maybe your friends'll come around later. I remember hating jazz when I was around thirteen or fourteen. Just two years later, I was hooked on it (thanks to Stanley Clarke and Pat Metheny) Enjoy your music and the way it makes you feel. Above all, be open to the music that'll come your way in your life. There's so much music out there it almost seems endless. I've learned that much in my twenty years of playing music. The great part is that no matter how much you think you know about music, there's more to discover. Enjoy yourself.
