I am more amazed and appreciative of the few Live recordings that we have of it. 1+1+1 is 3 - OH MY! And The Work - OH GOD! And The Everlasting Now - OH MY GOD!

It grew old fast for me. I still think it's great though, but not a top 10 Prince album.

I always thought the album was ok, but I have to say, it keeps growing on me.

As you said, I think the live performances helped. The version of the Work Part 1 was fantastic!

The most important thing about TRC was that it's revitalised princes music. Not only his releases but his live performing. Its back to basics, but he's still as adventurous as ever. If you look at this album and One Night Alone, he released two great studio albums within months of each other, making the kind of music that is lightyears away from some of the crap that he made between New Power Soul, Rave and the High stuff.

My only comment would be that these are "album" albums, and dont really contain many (if any) classics. Last December and the title track come close, She Loves Me 4 Me is radio friendly, and The Work is funktastic, but they dont quite cut it as stand outs.

ONA contains Avalanche, and his best cover version ever, A Case Of U, but they're both albums that only really work within the context of themselves. You compare tracks from them, and there arent that many that stand up against some of the classics from his earlier albums.

I'm still amazed at how I wasted my time listening to that drivel...I'd say C.R.A.P., but that's reserved for the most recent "album".

You presume that TRC was good in the first place.

Actually, it is a "good" album. Musically it was impressive and ranks with the best of Prince's albums. But thematically, it was muddled, and that what killed it for me.

I like Digital Garden, Muse 2 The Pharaoh and am really starting to love 1+1+1=3. But it is nowhere near P's top 10. It may be on par with C & D.

"eye No" is a more potent P manifesto of faith than all of TRC combined.

I am amazed actually.

I put it on yesterday, I haven't listened to it in months, and I couldn't get enough of the title track (never my favourite).

It holds up (for me so far) to repeated listening, and I'm very happy with it as a purchase - that's the first time I've been able to say that since TGE.

The Digital Garden is luscious, and I love the Work pt.1 now, I used to hate that track (I don't like James Brown very much - too monotonous).

TRC is great album IMO, it's up there, and I always recommend it when people ask what he's been upto since MBGITW - with a warning that it takes a while to get into and might not be everyone's cup of tea of course wink

Drivel. I would care to expound on a private org note but I cannot muster the energy to shoot you down at the present time.
To compare TRC to C&D is either witless sarcasm or blatant stupidity.

falloff

Who . . . in the blue hell . . . are you? You think somebody who says he's from Narnia deserves to be taken seriously?

Your inane attempts at condescension are highly amusing, seeing that you likely exhausted all of the more elaborate words in your vocabulary to muster that weak response. And you dare call yourself 23? I don't know, that mess you brought to the hole reminded me more of Bill Wennington.

Don't shoot the breeze about it little "fam," be about it. You know where to find me.

How's Aslan?

What I took considerable umbrage with was the ire with which you boldly claimed 'Well it is a good album'.
It wasn't your opinion - just the obnoxious way you chose to express it. You are not right - no-one is - everything is relative. There is no truth - and certainly not yours anymore than mine.

This album is still ear poison, even to this day. I won't torture myself with that wretched, so-called music. It disgusts me that someone I once looked up to could create such foulness. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I bought a second copy of TRC yesterday for only 18 euro.

The good thing is that the quality of the booklet is better than the first one I bought (thicker paper). There also was a big sticker on the front that says: "Prince The new album: The Rainbow Children".

I guess it must be the English version (the official release), because it was cheaper and Universal is mentioned in the booklet now (I don't think I saw that on the first exemplare). Anyone can confirm this?

So why did you put me on blast in the first place?

My perspective was frank and quite judicious. It was good in some ways and horrible in others. Quite like, IMO, C & D.

Had I wanted to state the opinion affirmatively, as if it were dogma, I would not have added the twocents

I'd hardly think that someone who refers to me as idiotic or stupid has any room to talk about obnoxious. Next time, post an actual retort as opposed to calling me out. Then we can debate on the merits. Is that a deal?

I love playing mine. 1st off, the SOUND of the cd is magnificent. Then, mostly I will let it play all the way through, including the robotic voice, buy then I DO skip the "voice" sometimes 2 get 2 the music, & sometimes JUST my fav's. I loved it from day 1, & love it more the more often I play it. I agree, when he does them live, they arent necessarily better (to me), but with a different flava & like one of his infamous "mixes". VERY COOL.

Actually, I have mixed feelings about this albums.

As a convinced atheist I don't really appreciate the lyrics (especially the 'theocratic order- mumbo jumbo BS'), but than again: at some points the album is musically a highlight in P'career: especially 'the sensual everafter' and 'Last december' still give me the chills.
However, some songs are IMO totally ruined by the strange voice. Especially the beginning of 'Family Name' sucks big time. Therefore the live version on the ONA album is.

All together, IMO TRC is not P's best album, but still better than 99% of all contemporary 'music'. P still rocks!
