WHOLE LOTTA LOVE as a single

Now we all like to think on occasions that we have actually got some worthwhile ideas, well here's my latest.

My two pennies worth is that if Prince was to release the DVD version of this song as a single with the video of it from the DVD and put the studio version of U WANT ME on as a B-side, that would make a great advertisement for the DVD.

PLUS the thought is that if he walked into UMG or sumwhere and said he wanted this as a single they would probably jump at the chance. I think this would work cuz its an amazing Led Zeppelin song and instantly recognisable, yet at the same time Prince truly makes it his own when he plays it. Being such a classis song it would also ensure Prince getting air time on the radio.

PLUS anyone seeing it would see that prince is a superb guitar player, which seems to be kinda a big Prince priority for people to realise. The other thing is that Prince wouldn't have to do a thing either. he's got the recording, he's got the video and all he needs to do is maybe do a tiny bit of promotion himself.

TAADAA!!! PRince is on top again.

OR am i just dreaming???

Sorry - definitely dreaming. It is a great song, but this will do nothing for Prince at all - it'll make him seem totally derivative and doing old classic rock songs... nooo.

He also does't want mainstream radio playing his stuff, as he doesn't lkike mainstream radio.

Nope, not going to happen, and I am afraid I for one, hpe it doesn't!

Sorry not to agree.

My vote for anything from the DVD to be released would be Family Name / backed with something NOT on the DVD, maybe the full piano version of The Beautiful Ones.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the mass audience would dig the falsetto vocals. And also this version really isn't the best. He just doesn't REALLY get off on the axe. Other versions were better, IMO.

I meant Whole Lotta Love. Though the same appeals to Family Name. The high vocals just doesn't work live. The verse he songs in his lower register is sooo much better.

Definitely dreaming "12inch". If Prince releases a cover of Zepplin, the first thing you're going to have to get around is all the die hard Zepplin fans saying "Prince totally screwed that song up! I hate it!" etc. The cover works best right where it is, live and in person.

If Prince wants to display his live guitar chops, theres tons of other stuff for him to release. Besides, I agree with the person who said that it would come off as Prince having to do Classic Rock songs just to get noticed again.

Nice try, but I don't think it would fly at all.

I have a question...did Prince get permission to record this song? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm serious. Did he??

Hello? Prince release his tepid cover of a well-known song AS A SINGLE? I thought it was OK as a joke when he did it live, like playing the theme from "Beverly Hillbillies" during "Alphabet Street". Funnier still would have been his falsetto versions of "Smoke On The Water" or "Paranoid".

Seconded - sorry!
It's way 2 much of a classic song.
Its one thing 2 do it in concert, but releasing it as a single is (intentionally or not) making it your 'own' - it just would'nt do him any favours - even as fantastic as it was.
I have 2 say (as a Zepp fan) I was listening 2 them the other day - and I woudl KILL 2 hear him play Black Dog!!! Now...next tour, if He does that, I can die a happy man!
lol

It sure wouldn't be a worse decision than picking Betcha By Golly Wow as the lead single off "the album he was born to make!"
