I kinf of fell of for a few years when Dream Factory first became available as a whole, so I just recently heard the album configuration. I had almost all the songs on other discs.
Anyway, I had chills and was totally smitten even @ 4am when I finally got home to listen to it. I love the version of strange relationship and had never heard that version of witness. I loved it. Love the sequence, and the tracks just are superb. No light in a large room has always been one of my favs. I must say this would be a superb vault release with the proper audio treatment and track notes. 10 out of 10 in my book Music is the best...

and that Prince decided to swap some of the songs around before commiting it to reference tape. It's certainly happened before on other albums, Adore and Beautiful Night changed places several times during the evolution of Crystal Ball and Sign O' The Times. That's true. According to Turn It Up 2.0 (or was it Days of Wild? I'm not that good at remembering which book said what) tracklistings with slight differences in the order of songs were made for Dream Factory vol.3, so both the Sabotage and Susan Rogers tracklists are legit. I assume the tracklist as it appears on the Sabotage release is one that made Prince think that some of the songs would be better off if placed differently. Certainly Interlude works better before Slow Love than before I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, and Movie Star works better before All My Dreams because it ends with snoring - going to dreamland, natch. I heartily agree. Personally, I think Dream Factory vol.2 is much more fun to listen to as it contains more songs that involves The Revolution - it was more of a Prince And The Revolution album than vol.3 - and it contained more songs which did not end up on Sign O' The Times, but remain unreleased. Listening to vol.3 isn't that different from listening to Sign O' The Times as a lot of the songs are the same (if not the same versions, but still...) Absolutely! So if Prince should ever decide to make an official release of The Dream Factory (like he did The Black Album), I hope he opts to release vol.2. Now, vol.3 has been released from Sabotage, but is there any release like that of vol.2 out there? (Because I would love to have that as well. I only have a tape of the second half.) I assembled my own version using the Dream Factory outtakes disc from Thunderball and some offical releases. Came out pretty good and works much better as a Prince & The Revolution record. Especially with the inclusions of Wonderful Day and Large Room... [This message was edited Fri Aug 29 1:36:57 PDT 2003 by scififilmnerd]

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker 6. Strange Relationship 7. Teacher Teacher 8. Starfish & Coffee 9. Splash 10. In A Large Room With No Light 11. Sexual Suicide 12. Crystal Ball 13. Power Fantastic 14. Last Heart 15. Witness 4 The Prosecution 16. Movie Star 17. A Place In Heaven 18. All My Dreams .

BorisFishpaw i have a question for you:
that jazz outro from 'splash'--was this in the original version of the song? it pretty much sounds like something prince "added" just before putting the song up for d/l. i cut that peace out of my 'splash' mp3--it just doesn't fit the song imo. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

Splash was recorded with the jazzy outro, Prince didn't add anything to the song for the d/l.

Problem is, PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION and PRINCE on his own were so prolific during 1986/87, that between DREAM FACTORY, CAMILLE and the CRYSTAL BALL, he coulda released a 5-disc album if WB had had the balls (which they didn't). DATA BANK CAN'T STOP THIS FEELING I GOT GIRL O' MY DREAMS WE CAN FUNK NEON TELEPHONE WONDEFUL ASS were these not part of the DREAM FACTORY PROJECT? No. The first four were recorded with the expanded Revolution in June '86 - after the second configuration of Dream Factory had been done. The third Dream Factory configuration that followed was basically Prince exchanging Prince And The Revolution tracks with solo performances, so naturally these four recordings did not get included. Wonderful Ass dates back to ยด83 and was about Vanity. Wendy & Lisa reworked it in early '86, but it was never included on any of the Dream Factory album configurations. Neon Telephone is a leftover from Parade. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

But... Those are Parade tracks. "All My dreams" was originally theclosing track on Parade. I've got a tape of the original Parade configuration. It was much better than the released version - that one does not really stand the test of time whereas the original does. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure someone would disagree.
