To do Purple Rain 2004 properly Not sure if all the current rumours going round about a remastered digital version of Purple Rain CD and DVD of the film with extras is true or not but would suggest if Prince wants to make it really special and show the world the real essence of Prince, I would suggest the following:
Yes release a DVD with extras - deleted outakes, llaughs on the set, the MTV launch party, maybe a concert from that period - make ita package worth having Yes remaster the CD - with any non released songs that were cut from the movie Make it a double CD and add a live concert recording from the tour All the above is within Prince's control - but the following is up to more than just Prince - reform and tour with the Revolution Any other suggestion out there?

Sounds good to me.
I'd like a DVD with: - The Movie - Audio Commentary from whomever (most likey Apollonia, Morris Day, the odd Revolution member). - Out-takes The album: - Remastered - Full version of Computer Blue and Let's Go Crazy 12" - B-sides - Out-takes (Wednesday, Father's Song, Electric Intercourse other stuff like The Modernaires, Possessed etc). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

to do it properly Prince should NOT be involved in any way shape or form!!, as much as I truly love the man and his music he truly sucks at marketing. Pray that he trusts others with it[ ooh there's some pigs flyin' by my window!!]

yeah but we love him with all his faults. I wonder whether he will go down the route of releasing a brilliant cd to actually compete with Purple Rain!, or re record the songs and put out his version. who knows. I still would prefer a whole new project rather than a revisit to 84.

If we are going to dream how about:
1 - Purple Rain DVD with extras 2 - Purple Rain Original Soundtrack remastered 3 - Purple Rain Rarities Remixes, alternate takes, extended versions, out-takes, remixes & b-sides. This could easily be two cds. 4 - Purple Rain - Live! Rare never released before Purple Rain Era recordings with Prince & The Revolution. This could also be multi-disc. Thats my dream. My reality is I don't expect anything.

I totally agree. Plus "I knew a girl named Nikki I guess you could say she was a banished girl, I met her in the Kingdom Hall reading the Bible so she could teach about the New World." Doesn't have really have the same ring to it so I hope he stays FAR away from the project, just let Wendy and Lisa take care of it.

i want to see the making of the movie i want to see all the outtakes and anything else they might of left out on vhs I would like 2 c this also. I think it would be great to have the cd remastered like Lionel Richie did his "Can't Slow Down". They have the original cd on cd 1 along with 12" versions and single mixes. Disc 2 consists of "Works In Progress" as well as outtakes. That would be WONDERFUL! Imagine disc 2 of Purple Rain containing Apollonia 6's album, some works in progress songs (like Possessed, Old Friends 4 Sale, Wednesday,). Maybe even have the 12" versions of the b-sides of that era. CD 1 Let's Go Crazy Take Me With U The Beautiful Ones Computer Blue Darling Nikki When Doves Cry I Would Die 4 U Purple Rain God (Instrumental) Father's Song When Doves Cry (with the original bass line) (Maybe even a few of the songs that were originally recorded at the warehouse in MPLS in the Summer of 83). CD 2 Let's Go Crazy (12" Version) Erotic City (12" Version) Computer Blue (unreleased long version) 17 Days Sex Shooter - Apollonia 6 Jungle Love (edited version)- The Time The Bird (edited version)- The Time Modernair - Dez Dickerson Wednesday (Maybe include some of the instrumental score that was included in the movie). Purple Rain (a version like he played at the piano in the movie) I know this would never happen, but it would be nice to see. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Man just keep prince away, otherwise will have the "New master" crap! The best thing Warner did was to keep Prince's input out of the hits box set. This CD set is very close to perfect- with the sequencing, the new songs, the B-sides and the packaging. ______________________________________________

Jungle Love (edited version)- The Time The Bird (edited version)- The Time . The Hell does anyone want the edited 7" versions of the time tracks? I dig your intent, but that was just foolish. Keep your headphones on.

Uh, shouldn't you guys be posting this in the NPGMC? I mean, so it can really get back to Prince.

I like Purple Rain the way it is!
And that's how I will always like it. Mostly, I don't like all the new editions of classic albums. All this fill-up crap, like demo's and shit. There's a concept behind an album which will be destoyed by putting some extra tracks on it. One of the main reasons there aren't as many classic albums as there were in the 70's is the 80 minutes CD. Artist can put everything on an album, and they do! So ... I'd love a 24-bit remaster! And I love the 9 tracks! All the tracks mentioned above: great to have ... on a bootleg or on the original album they appeared on

It would be a shame if the powers that be didn't do a proper 20th year anniv. for the Purple rain phenom. All other '' icons '' have been set off properly in memorium with their ' landmark '' albums. Treat a real artist with some RESPECT !

Plus,I'm sick of hearing the poor quality bootlegs.I want to finally hear good,CLEAR versions of "Computer Blue" (long version),"G-Spot",etc. On the other hand, sometimes it's not such a bad idea to just have the original album re-mastered without any bonus tracks.Stevie Wonder's landmark 70s albums were remastered several years ago, with NO bonus tracks whatsoever. So,I can see what you're saying. In any case,I just want the album to be re-mastered!
