more of this please.

Look what the critics said about Chaos and Disorder. now who says that was a rubbish album.

What the Critics Say...
Spin (1/97, p.61) - "...the finest ex-Prince album you never heard. If some unknown had released this much rock and soul, bruise guitar and gifted trash talk, fans would rave. 'I Will' is the miracle power ballad with winged solo, 'I Rock, Therefore I Am' a defiant shout..."

Musician (10/96, pp.82-83) - "...his best in nearly a decade...Prince seems to have found his former self and his sense of humor. He's also recalled how to rock. On the title track he plugs in his guitar, fires up the Hammond organ, and sounds genuinely pissed off that the world has gone awry..."

Q Magazine (8/96, p.118) - 3 Stars - Good - "...a sarcastic kiss-off to the banality, the corruption and the tragic lack of funkiness of the corporate caucasian world...As a guitarist, Prince is at his foxiest in some time..."

There is one thing to keep in mind with all of the positive reviews you've posted, and that is this album was promoted by Warner Bros. This is the kind of thing that major labels can buy for an artist to sell their product.

Aside from that, personally, I've always loved Chaos and Disorder, even though I do think the bitterness Prince has towards WB seeps through. I mean, even if Prince had never admitted it, I would've known by the vibe of the whole album that it was nothing more than contract filler for him. But even with that, I still personally love the album.

I kinda like it too. It's just that... Well, the version of Zannalee that was shown as a video on the Gold tour was a lot better than the overproduced version that ended up on the album - you know, in the same way that the brilliant Endorphinmachine on early versions of Come got ruined before being released on the Gold Exp.
Very disappointing.

But Same December is a good song. The title track is great. I wouldn't mind having the December '94 version of this album that included Empty Room. Betcha that was much better than the released album.

Exactly. These critics were wined and dined. Who said "All The Critics Love You In New York"? Prince knows that reviews are BS when they come from the corporate sheep. Good or bad.

I do dig the record, though. Not his best, but it rocks hard.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
