"Planet Rock, U just Can't Stop" (UTCM recordings..) In the movie "Under The Cherry Moon" u can hear Kristin Scott Thomas play the drums while she chants with here birtdayparty guests the line "Planet Rock, you just can't stop..." or something like that. This is unmistakenly incidental music done by Prince himself, but is it a distilation of a complete track like "(I wanna be a)Modernaire" was in the movie "Purple Rain" (done by Dez Dickerson and the Modernaires - Did he had an album release at the time?...)?
any info on this would be great, thanx everyone.

No.
It's the song, 'Planet Rock', as written and recorded by Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force. 1982. Tommy Boy Records. Classic early electro rap track produced and mixed by Arthur Baker. . (The song, 'Holly Rock' was written by Prince and recorded by Shiela E (with Prince on most instrumentation and production). It did not feature on one of her albums, but rather was on the soundtrack to the film, 'Krush Groove'.) ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift. |

That's interesting that he would be hip to Afrika Bambataa. ***************************************************

any info on this would be great, thanx everyone. Honestly, guys... "Planet Rock, U just can't stop" is just a line sung to the music of New Position. Can't y'all hear that? I recall reading at the time of the Purple Rain movie that Dez had an album in the works to be released by WB, but it never saw release. I think Uptown had an article about Dez once that mentioned why it never saw release. I think his excuse was that he found God (strange how Prince associates have a fashion of doing that), but possibly WB didn't find it good enough. I don't think Prince was involved with it at all. Anyways, Dorothypark, I checked your profile and you've set you fan level at hardcore. I take it that means you have Uptown's Days Of Wild with the CD-ROM, right? The Dez-article is probably included on that, but I confess... I haven't checked to see if it is. I mean, why spoil your fun when you can check yourself, right? Exactly. Listen to that bassline. Marley Marl sampled that part of the movie and produced "This Is Something For The Radio" for Biz Markie in 1988 (on Cold Chillin' Records, a label under Warner Bros).

The song is a vamp of "New Position". "Planet Rock, U just can't stop" was just a chant that they did pver the top. That drum loop has been used in many, may hip hop and R&B tracks... Even in the TV theme for "In Living Color"
