No he didnt. Sweet Charles Sherell of the James Brown Band did. I've heard this said before...I've asked those who've argued it to provide proof - none could. I own/have access to all original James Brown recordings. If you can, direct me to the recording that proves this. If not, I'm afraid I just can't take your word for it. -SWANGdon'twannaargueneither I'd take Bootsy anyday over Larry. Larry is a one trick pony.

I don't debate Larry's musical ability and I give him much respect for what he does. I personally never liked his voice, but that's just my taste.
The problem, I think, is that Larry's style and his presence just never blended with the Prince vibe very well. It's a forced mix. Prince has always had such a distinctive sound and total control...it just doesn't work when he tries to join forces with another strong, distinctive sound that he didn't create. The choice of set list was OK...for a while. But Prince had been stuck in a bit of a rut after Emancipation. Remember everyone complaining that he was concentrating too much on his old material in concert and hardly ever playing any of the stuff off his new releases? That went on for over a year and then Larry came on the scene. Some new songs were added, but they were all covers. The fans were coming to hear Prince tear up some new music and all we got were covers of somebody else's stuff. Larry was caught in the backlash of everyone's frustration. If the Sly/Graham percentage had been scaled way down or eliminated, and if the politics hadn't been present (JW, no cussing, Prince's habit of praising Larry at every opportunity to the point of idolization), do you really think that people would be so negative toward Larry? Or would he just have been accepted as The New Bass Player in the NPG and judged solely on his chops? I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.
