Not if yor aim is to puke, no. I saw his act on the Newpower Soul tour and the sound was dreadful. And the part with his wife guesting on stage just to wave a hankerchief around was, like... Puke! And in the Rave Un2 the Year 2000 show, he was insufferable - as bad as Tony M. and the Game Boyz. His voice is dreadful. Thank goodness I caught an edited tv-transmission on VHS that left Larry's solo-performance out. I think Larry is a has-been opportunist who saw in Prince a way of getting his name back into the spotlight. Unfortunately for Larry, Prince was fast on his way to becoming just as much of a has-been as Larry already was. Oh, well... At least he seduced one into his church... Sigh... As long as Larry's around, Prince will continually be dragged down by his influence. I felt such relief when I saw Act II and the rumours were true: The Game Boys were gone. I hope some day to have that same experience with Larry. [This message was edited Wed Aug 13 16:53:42 PDT 2003 by scififilmnerd] FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Larry is very COOL! He plays a mean bass guitar & his very low voice is sexy. He's a great musician/singer from the 70's and "now" after joining prince. Leave his religious beliefs out of the talent sector, and his friendship with prince, as its no ones business but THEIRS. When he does "sing a simple song" with prince, I am in awe. Sooo funky. Much better than when he did it with his group Sly & the Family Stone, IMHO. However, they were always one of my favourite groups! May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. | |

--- Grandbelle, I agree with you. One of my favs as well, and no doubt, one of Prince's. ----- I don't get why people are so mean, yes mean! I have the the 2000 video, and I think Larry is great on this, in every way shape and form. His voice, his playin, his outfit! What is up with people being so MEAN. What is your problem, and why do you have to diss talent like this, or anyone for that matter? [This message was edited Wed Aug 13 18:24:53 PDT 2003 by naturegirl] | |

Well put Sansker7...I mean, ENOUGH, with Larry Graham. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |

I think Larry Grahm is a good musician, he's just one of those people who play good but just should never open their mouths. And, we're talking about Prince letting him sing, and we know P ain't too picky when it come to people's vocal ability (vanity, apples, wendy & lisa-back in the day, susan, gayle chapman, tony m, shall I go on?)
The people blaiming larry for Prince's behavoir should really just suck it up and realize that their hero Prince is a grown-ass-man who's soley respondsible for everything he does. his cookiness isn't anything new, y'all just need someone new to blaim. Yeah, Prince hangs around with larry, so what? get on with life. ~KiKi | |

Not to mention just being proud of her husband. What is wrong with these things? N O T H I N G ! Actually, I think there is. I think that it's fine if she's proud of her husband and is enjoying his shows, but she could be that and do that from backstage. If there is no point to her presence on stage other than to wave a hankerchief with great enthusiasm, then it's silly. Certainly, it looks silly. If she HAS to be on stage, she should do something constructive while there. If she was singing or dancing - fine. But she's not. She's waving a hankerchief! How silly IS that? So I don't understand why she is there, other than to flaunt Larry's lifestyle and if THAT is the point, then it IS... FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I can see why Prince likes him. Albums such as "Release yourself", "Graham Central Station" or "The Jam" are major funk groundworks and beyond destructive criticizm. Calling them "naff" is only showing off musical ignorance. | |

Like usual you dont know what you are talking about. When Larry revived Graham Central Station he played full houses all over the world, he even headlined the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, on of the largest festivals in the world. That was before he teamed up with Prince. In reality, working with Prince did more damage to Larry's career than vice versa. Ignorance is bliss... | |

Larry Graham is a funk god. If the stuff he did with Prince was lame, you can blame Prince as much as Larry. Prince's collaborations are always lame.
The older stuff he did with Sly & the Family Stone and also Graham Central Station are just timeless funk masterpieces. Without that stuff, you wouldn't even HAVE Prince nowadays (or at least, he'd be playing something very different). Can you blame Prince wanting to play with his musical hero? Nope. Can you blame Larry for trying to get his music out to a younger audience? Hardly. All of y'all speaking so disrespectfully of Larry Graham really shouldn't take this shit so personally It's just pop music. If you like it, you like it, and if you don't, you don't. | |

Most prince fans are either too young or too pop to really understand the concept of Larry's general musical influence and impact on Prince. They just see an old dude jamming on stage with Prince, playing serious funk... while they want their Little Red Corvette... | |

I have 'Release yourself' and Best of GCS CD's. I tell you what, Larry wrote some fine funk back in the day, and has every right to be proud of his catalogue and his time with Sly.
Prince is obviously easily influenced, it isn't entirely Larry's fault he's chosen the JW path. Try the death of his child, the falloff in his popularity, The breakup with Mayte, His parents dying. surely these things contributed.Having said that,I'd bet if Prince was even half as popular now as he was in the 80's, he'd still be the Prince we like best. Not this wishy-washy imposter. | |

No he didnt. Sweet Charles Sherell of the James Brown Band did. I've heard this said before...I've asked those who've argued it to provide proof - none could. I own/have access to all original James Brown recordings. If you can, direct me to the recording that proves this.
