OMG... LARRY GRAHAM SUCKS !!!!! I have been listening to a few different shows from the '98 European shows. And I cannot get over how much L.G. sucks the big balls. :chair"
How Prince decided to let him sing is beyond me. Every time he opens his mouth, he sounds like he is preaching. Give me a fuckin break. All he does is promote his album. Can't sing woth a shit. And listening to all the "baby brother" shit makes me want to puke. Your old and ugly and need to retire man. :clap" Just shut up and play the base. Don't bring all you songs into Princes set and play them out. I bet alot of fans were pissed for having to sit thru that shit and pay for it. I have to hit skip about 5 times to get thru this shit just to listen to a Prince set. Sucks!!! . "

No, Larry does not suck! Some of us may not like the way he has influenced Prince, but the man plays a mean bass and he seems to have good, decent morals which is something that many new artists know nothing about. Look at the likes of 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, ODB, these people suck. Larry does not!

Back in the day he ahd some good shit. "My Radio" is a great song as is "Can You Handle That". It's the mind washing religious bullshit that ruins a man.

Exactly how is Larry Graham a "ruined" man? Elaborate, please. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I have a few of the GCS albums from the 70s, they are pretty naff to be honest. I mean I dig a few of the songs - but they were pretty goofy.
I can see why Prince likes him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

its cool for prince to give some time over to larry during the live shows but i agree that sometimes it was a bit too long. i mean, afterall, we were there for a prince show. i remember the 1998 newpowersoul shows. they were great...but larry played just a song or two too long. but, in fairness, the shows were advertised as "come feel the power of the old school" featuring larry graham, chaka khan and , so i guess we had the heads up.

Exactly how is Larry Graham a "ruined" man? Elaborate, please. . He's no longer allowed to think for himself. He is now told what to think and do and how to act instead being allowed to use the common sense that God gave him. Organised religion=mind control. No thanks.

I'm not saying he can't play a mean bass. I just can't stand listening to him sing or watching him on stage with Prince.
If I wanted to see Larry, I would go and see him. I love George Clinton also, but it hard to watch him on stage now, especially with Prince. . "

larry graham:: revolutionary/master bass player... mediocre songwriter. now living off of the back catalog of sly and the family stone. i don't know where the pride is in that...

and YES, he's the most insignificant and disgusting "artist" prince choosed to work with...he can't sing, he play poorly as i speak english, he's got a stupid stage attitude...but prince is adult, a can choose to f..k his life in the way he prefers.

No, that's not what I meant and I think you knew that, but just wanted to say something. Seeing as I have to explain myself, I will. The other so called artists that I mentioned have no morals and are nothing but thugs. Why do people give props to people like 50 Cent, Snoop Dog etc, and diss perfectly decent people like Larry? Larry is not a good singer and we may not all agree with his relgious beliefs, but he played in a very relevant band many years ago and has proven that he has more talent in his baby finger than many so called artists today do. He does not do drugs or hit on young girls. He does not carry a gun and brag about how many times he's been shot and he doesn't let his children walk around with bullet proof vests on acting like it's cool. He plays a real instrument and he plays it extremely well. Say what you want about Larry, he beats the hell out of many other currently popular "artists".

I believe you've made some sort of attempt to describe Prince's current state of mind. Unfortunately, you have failed to answer my question. Exactly how is Larry a "ruined" man? . Sometimes being proficient with an instrument isn't the be all and end all.
Sure Larry can play a bass guitar, but I can't say I'd like an artist purely based on their proficiency with an instrument. I'm a big Divine fan and he couldn't sing, he couldn't dance, couldn't play any instruments, and looked like a fat dude in a tight dress - But he had more charisma in his tightly concealed nutsack than Larry Graham has in his whole body. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The JOTY show at the Brixton Academy in London, Larry came out into the audience while doing this immense bass solo. He was right next to me! So I have a 'good' larry experience, but I agree his singing aint all that...just look at the Rave DVD. His bass work is great though, and his older stuff like the Jam is the shit.
I don't like when he touts his albums and shit. Cringe-worthy, especially when you're with a friend who's never been to a Prince concert! He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. - Albert Einstein

I remember the ONA concert here in NYC last year. During the show, LG made a 'surprise' appearance onstage during one of the songs. Security scrambled up on stage becasue they thought it was an audience member. Acouple of the band members had to tell them that the dude in the white suit waving his hands was a 'surpise guest' (ahem, ahem). It still makes me laugh to think about it

what have any of you done that even remotely equates to the life of this man? what have you accomplished? what have style have you invented? anyone who talks shit on someone who is not present to defend themselves is a disgusting coward. period. at least have something intelligent to say. blaming larry for any direction P takes his life in is childish.

Larry is a revolutionary bass player and easily the best bassist (for this style) that Prince has ever had in his band. He used to have a beautiful singing voice -- check out his solo hit "One in a Million" if you don't believe me. Maybe simple age has worn his voice down, though.
I wish Blackwell had been playing drums when Larry was in the band... Blackwell, Larry, Mike Scott/Kat Dyson makes just about the most formidable funk rhythm section known to man. But, alas, it was not to be... [This message was edited Wed Aug 13 14:01:15 PDT 2003 by TedW] [This message was edited Wed Aug 13 14:01:35 PDT 2003 by TedW]

What can I write about Larry that I haven't written before? The guy took full advantage of Prince from the start. His career was over and he used Prince to get back on stage in front of large crowds. He totally brainwashed him with his morailty and made Prince even more of an idiot.
I went to a club show that was advertised as a Prince show. We waited on line for 6 hours just to hear 2 Prince songs and the rest of the show was given to Larry. That was pretty fucked up, I'm sure you'd agree. That was the last time I paid to see him live. Prince fertilized the soil and Larry planted the bad seed. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Larry's a great bass player no doubt.
BUT When P played Wembley Arena in 98 there was a curfew which he (Prince) knew about. So why did we get long sets from GCS and Chaka Khan and a shortened set from Prince?

larry is a great musician and rightfully has a place in music history. but, i have to say i don't enjoy seeing him take the stage from 'little brother', i don't feel comfortable watching tina wave a towel, and when larry took his shoe off onstage i thought wtf??? because i miss the old days when the shows were throbbing with that pent up energy and drive, a vision of music blending seamlessly with dance. now it's like a friendly handshake, and we have to hear those same LG songs again and again. . this is negative i suppose, but mind you i'm NOT commenting on larry the man, who is a fine and genuinely kind person, but rather on my perception of his influence on 'prince's' shows. it's how i feel, and it's ok if prince keeps on keeping on with mr G. it's his choice. just my 2c
