when I said he was a "Rip-off Prince" I didn't mean it in a bad way. D has his own sound somehow but no power can deny the influence that Prince made in D's music.

dude, that's all i'm saying. i thought you detested him for paying respects to the great(s). if you'd agreed with me the first time around i wouldn't have had to write that way-too-long reply. lol.

As 4 the LP Untitled? well, all I have to say is put the Black LP/LoveSexy/Parade in a blender and there you have "Untitled". Some of the ideas and echos from these CDs can be noticed in this joint clearly.

the song's an ode to the 'controversy'-era prince. but the song 'untitled' to me sounds like 'adore', 'scandalous' and 'insatiable' thrown in the mix together, with a sprinkle of prince's early 80's boldness. great song--especially the extended live version

I don't need 2 blow shit up, hell its a message board as far as I'm concern, it ain't the centre of the universe.

didn't mean to step on any toes. thought this was a 'discussion forum' where people were to discuss. so, that's what i wanted to achieve basically. it worked.

Much love & props tho!

same here.

Beck : Midnite Vultures

Seems that Beck inherited all the skills from Prince.
Everything Prince once was, Beck is on this album. And Beck got more guts : he never plays safe.

In the last track, Debra, he even exceeds the master!

If you don’t own this album, do yourself a favour, and buy it!

What’s your favourite rip-off?

I just bought this CD..."Debra" would be a good song, if
his falsetto was tight! no no no! Face it, he's just another
imitator, they come, they go...
The CD sounds funky tho...i'll listen to it a bit, then
report back. K?
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Beck's no imitator ... he just knows the musical giants of the past, and makes something new with it
(like Prince did).

And he doesn't copy Prince ... just on this particular album he's inspired by Prince.
Beck has proved himself ... he's no hero-of-the-day!

Yeah Midnite Vultures is my favourite "rip-off" because it rides a fine line between homage and parody but is still funky as hell. LOVED it when it came out. Played it again just the other day and I still love the first half of it. To me 'Debra' steps over...it's borderline wierd al yankovic. Hollywood Freaks or Get Real Paid RULE though.

Sorry, but I just ain't feeling Midnight Vultures. Sounds like a funk tribute band trying to play something original - just sounds like he's sucking up to the funk gods instead of bringing something new. I pull the CD out every year or so to see if it grows on me - it does, but more like a fungus than music. I just don't get it.

Midnight Vultures = whofarted

'do anything' by ???

Some say Prince produced it but I think it's just a very good rip-off even has late 90's female voice in it.

Anyone heard it?

"Do Anything" is a 1991 song by a group known as Natural Selection. It is rumored that Ingrid Chavez appears on this song,as the female voice.

Michael Jackson Side one of 'Dangerous'

huh!?

if you had said the 'bad' album, then i would've agreed with you.

but 'dangerous'? the first half is new jack swing. what makes you say it sounds like prince?

'jam', 'in the closet' and 'remember the time' sound like prince to you? explain.

It was actually Niki Haris. She was has been Madonna's backup for years. I love that song.
