Saw Purple Rain at the drive-in and that was it! I was hooked. Wow, I can't believe it's been almost 20 years.

When I was 8 years old and heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on the radio, got me hooked on his voice. Then the "Little Red Corvette" video is what sealed the deal and got me hooked on him for life!!! It was those damn eyes!!!

My uncle was driving uptown one afternoon in '88 and suddenly pulled over to an Our Price Record Store(now known as Virgin Express shops I think)

Anyway, he left me sitting in the back and ran in and out clutching this lp

Asking him what he got, he said 'take a look' which I did
'Who the hell is this?!' I said

The rest is history
I think it was Anna Stesia that totally blew me away!

When Doves Cry, of course I heard Prince before that, but the whole Purple Rain hysteria made me a believer of his music and onstage presence.

Where my Detroit peeps at? This one's for you.

IT'S ALL MOJO'S FAULT.

There was a radio DJ here in Detroit called the Electrifyin' Mojo. He used to play hours of Prince on his show. On new year's eve, 1984, his entire five hour slot was all Prince and Prince-related shit. (with a couple interruptions by UTFO for some odd reason). I was nine, and I was hooked that night. Back in these days pretty much everyone in town listened to Mojo when he was on because he played anything, no format, no playlist. He brought his own records into the studio every night, and played whatever he felt like playing. A lot of Prince, sure, but also Hendrix, Queen, Beatles, P-Funk, Run-DMC, Kraftwerk, B-52s, Madonna, etc etc etc. anything was fair game on his show, whether old, new, funk, jazz, pop, rap, classical, slow jams, electro, whatever. He educated me and thousands of other people who were growing up in the Detroit area in the 80s. But if you ask any prince was over the age of, say 25 or so, from Detroit, they'll prolly tell you the same thing: IT'S ALL MOJO'S FAULT. See, you didn't turn his show off, ever; you didn't want to miss what came next. No two nights were alike back then, and he didn't take requests usually either. He played everything that other stations were afraid to. And we all ate it up. So, not turning Mojo's show off meant hearing a lot of Prince on a lot of nights. You couldn't help but be sucked in.
Keep your headphones on.

I'm what you'd call a second generation Prince fan. I was exposed to his music while still in the womb, and thereafter, so I had no choice but to succumb to the funk.
As a child, I remember loving the movie, Under the Cherry Moon not to mention singing the words to my favorite songs off of Parade.

I guess you can say, I was a fan from the start; literally.

when i was a teenybopper,(& huge britney fan) i read an interview & she said how she loved some of Prince's music.
half following what my idols did & half because i actually loved the stuff i had heard on the radio...
i bought Hits/B*Sides.

then that following summer i bought Rave (when it came out)...
& the rest is history.

SEE!!!... Britney isn't so bad afterall
lol

if it wasn't 4 her...i most likely wouldnt have known anything more than Cream & WhenDovesCry.
