Ce soir, le chanter... ;-)

Une question pour les fanatiques français...existez-vous? wink

After living here for almost 5 months now, I've heard a lot of good funky music played on the radio and in the clubs...and a refreshingly generous serving of Prince tunes. Hell, Nova played Old Friends For Sale the other night! Thing is, I've noticed that time and time again, more often than not, I will hear Kiss, or Girls and Boys.

C'est la question...Is this the nations favourite?

Tell me it's because the album perfectly captures Prince's desire to be quirky and original, yet maintaining the Funk all the way...except for the one about la neige, which is one of his most tear-rendering tunes right?

Or is it because...

hmmm...France can be real lonely for a Prince fan...

Ok, I open the question up to all the French-Canadians in the house!

About your thread title, as a french fan I guess you could have figured out that he in fact sings in Le Grind:
"Ce soir, la chatte, all night long". 69
And not: "Le chantez"... disbelief which by the way means nothing!

How utterly embarassing, you're right ofcourse. I knew I shouldve taken that album over with me! Hey, I'll edit the thread.

Shit damn.

Untill I see some lyrical confirmation, it'll have to be 'Tonight, sing it...all night long' I'm afraid.

lol

as opposed to, erm, how do you say...

"Tonight, the female-cat... all night long"

Maybe you're right! disbelief

Does la chatte have an alternative meaning???

The 'I really want to learn' edit...

Ok, so maybe I have figured out your logic... 'chatte' as in (female) cut, as in 'pussy'?

You see, the confusing thing for me was that Prince pronounces an 'ai' at the end of the word 'chant' or 'chat'...whatever. So chatte has an accent on the 'e'?

hmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmmhmm

Enlighten me please! lol

No, chatte has no accent...
But only french-speaking people know about the "silent" final "e", ok?

I've read many lyrics transcriptions with the "ce soir, le chanter" line: first of all, it means nothing in french. "Tonight, sing it", would go: "Ce soir, chantez", without "le". And considering the overall lyrics tone of the Black Album, the all night long pussy thing seems more appropriate, don't you think?

Bonjour à toi,

Je me suis posé souvent la question... pas facile, compte tenu de l'accent de Prince !! Mais la "chatte" me paraît plus dans le contexte que le "chanter".

Sinon, il y a plein de gigs funky sur Paris.

Open your heart, open your mind !!
