ONA LIVE IS PLATINUM! ONA LIVE BOX SET sold over 333000 copies in the US and 300 000 outside. That IS. Anyone can prove it sold LESS? 'Cause it SURE sold a little MORE.

Actually yes. The standard is different for boxsets.

Technically, each disc counts as a copy (hence double albums racking up twice as many copies as the actually "really" sell). And RIAA figures are domestic only. So, assuming these stats are correct, ONA is at 999000. That's a BIG assuming. ____________________________

Platinum is different for different countries. I don't think there is global platinum. A million in the US is platinum. Now becuase it is a three disc set (, it has to have only shipped 333,000+ boxes in order to go platinum (I think becuase I remember a controversy of "Emanicaption going double platinum but selling 666,000 copies or something). And I highly doubt it sold 333,000 (or even shipped) sets considering I couldn't find one anywhere (and I know others had problems as well) but who knows. I can't prove either way. Just wondering who that album sol that many copies yet a studio album like "The Rainbow Children" hasn't gone gold (500,000 in the US).

The music industry has changed many things… platinum doesn't mean 1 million anymore! And if TRC sold 500 000 in the US, seing the good reviews and little promos, it makes it over 8000 or 1 million all over the world! ONA live being his first LIVE (beautifull) box set… I hardly can find any copy in stores by now!

Actually, it sold about 65,000 I think. I wonder if the club copies count towards those figures?
I don't know the real number for sure, but put it this way: do you know anyone outside of the org or the club who owns it? Your 333,000 figure is outlandish. Are you kidding me? Do you realize how many units that is? I have yet to see it in a store. [This message was edited Wed Jul 16 20:18:42 PDT 2003 by theblueangel] No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. it's kinda odd, I've only seen the boxset in 2 stores in MPLS (small, non-corporate stores) but in London, it was in almost every store I went through...
hmmm whatevs, I still have barely listened to it once...

I saw it here in Toronto for $110. I heard it wasn't that great so I'll have to pass for now. I paid $150 to see him in Hamilton but $110 for cd's is ridiculous.

I still haven't seen it in the store. Has it been officially released? The local stores keep saying that the other stores are carrying it, but none of them are.
Is it any good? I didn't know it was officially released yet. Prince should do some promotion! Damn. Last I saw him he was on the TONIGHT show back in Dec. It has been months now Prince! Damn. You want to promote an album, mention it to someone along the way.

This post shows the figures for ONA at only around 87,000. And it's not that old. It wouldn't have even gone gold by your standards. What is your source on this? Dippy, I purchased mine for $37.99 US at efetus.com. It ships to Canada. Right now, including shipping, that's still less than $60 CAN. pick it up, I sure like it. NB: www.Pureviolet.org has its own MESSAGE BOARD: the VIOLET GROUND!(At last!) This is for sure PLAIN bullshit and I simply don't understand where's the fun for you in posting such stupid lies. It's not us to prove it sold less, it's you to prove it sold that much. Reveal your source and if that's true, you'll get an apology from me. In these times, Prince has enormous problems in selling even 100.000 copies of his releases. Prince is dead. Nobody cares for him but us and a few 80'ies nostalgia freaks. That's the truth, not the NPGMC hype.

That's the truth, not the NPGMC hype. Well put for the most part. Agreed, "ONA Live" has NOT sold anywhere near that amount in the US, although it may well have done about 300,000 worldwide. I know exactly two non-NPGMC members who have copies. Most of us here (and at the NPGoombaMoronClub) still care whether he makes a great album or not. Prince isn't dead though - physically and definitely not creatively. I don't rate NEWS that highly ("Xpectation" was waaay better, but that's my opinion), but I admire him for releasing it.

Oh really? Exactly how many copies do you now have to sell in order to reach platinum status in the US?

go to RIAA.com these are the people who issue gold & platinum records. Neither ONA Live or Rainbow are listed as Gold or Platinum but he does have close to 4 pages of Gold & Platinum records. Go to the searchable database.

Last night at Amoeba Records in Hollywood, CA, I spotted seven copies of the box set for sale. All were priced at $59.00. Insane amount of cash for a simple three CD set. What is shipped is what is counted as what is sold in the US. I understand that 87,000 copies were shipped.

Why do I imagine you sitting in some parkinglot listening to a CD of new and unreleased Prince stuff for some reason? lol. Is ONA worth listening to? Is it worth buying for 59 bones? The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. Now I do not see any. The boxes cannot not be returned for store credit. Therefore, they were purchased by customers. In addition, Best Buy decided to close down their label right at the same time the CD was put out and most retail store do not carry a lot of copies of box sets because they do not usually sell that well. Stop implying that their is know demand for the product. People have to know about the box set and be able to purchase it. Try to learn a little bit more about the retail aspects of the music industry before you dog Prince.

It's certainly NOT worth $59.00; hence the surplus of copies at Amoeba. You can order this online and even with shipping it's cheaper. I don't know what they're thinking.. I dig it for the live piano medley and the re-working of the tracks from TRC. especially Everlasting Now. You remember that one?

I am not a member of the NPGMC. I have a copy of ONA Live because I ordered it from a web site back in December for $39.99 (tax and shipping included). It's not a bad collection, but I have only listened to it a few times. I have yet to see this box set in a record store. And I have been looking, just to see if anyone bothered to order some copies.
