"Chaos & Disorder": it's not that bad an album...

I just listened to "Chaos & Disorder" and really, it's not that bad. The first four songs are tight rocksongs, furthermore I like "Dig U Better Dead" and "Had U", the latter being truly genious. "Into The Light" and "I Will" are not spectacular but have their moments. I can bear "I Rock Therefore I Am" and I'm not disliking "Right The Wrong", eventhough it will never be my favorite song. All 'n' all I give the album a 7 out of 10...

It is definately Princes most under rated album and just goes to show that Prince couldn't make a bad album even when he tries.

Better than TRC, Xpectation, and N.E.W.S., but still crappy.

I really enjoy this album. It's dark, pissy and full of guitars. All I need, really.

This album is like the Black Album. It's something he could have done in his sleep. But it's still cool and I still like it. Princes cast offs are still better than anything us mere mortals could come up with!!

It's far from his best but it has some great moments. The title track kicks butt and there's some other fun songs as well. I agree it is better than his recent work, but of course not in the same league as his 80s stuff.

Ayup, that about says it for me. Right the Wrong cracks me up, whether or not it's supposed to - it's Prince On Crack, which is my favorite flavor in the whole bar. Geetar screamin' all over the place, and the lyrics to Dinner W/ Delores couldn't be bitchier if they were written by Joan Collins. I could do without the second-rate rapfest near the end, but what the hell - it's worth enduring for that last little snippet of bile against the WB and the grande contractual finale...FUCK U.

Yummy. If you don't like it, it ain't MY damn problem...

C & D was the first album on which Prince stretched out from the funk format for the entire record. It was too rock and roll for the pedestrian Prince from the Purple Rain bandwagon. It was entirely over the head of the core "R&B/urban" dempgraphic that Prince is so often incorrectly pigeon holed into. I remember that it was released close to the same time that Jesse Johnson's Bare My Naked Soulwas released. I rejoiced because my 2 favorite guitarists finally released guitar records. C & D will be remembered years from now when Prince is finished making music.

Jesse Johnson is Hendrix reborn, I think Prince was trying to answer back as a player. Boy does he answer! "I like it there" is stunning, and "Zannalee", is a blues players dream. I wish these two would let down their' egos and play together, they would make all the other guitar players cry. I am a player and worship at the alter of Jesse, and Prince. (see www.funkyparadise.com) I hope Prince can remember the man who can stand up with him, as a player, recognize his ability, and say let's change the field!!

Better than Diamonds & Pearls and prince, but not as good as most his other albums. Still, even Prince's "dull" albums are still better than most of the other stuff that's out there - believe me, I've looked!lol

I can't see how people are saying it's better than TRC, Xpectation and NEWS. As much as it is good, C&D is still just a throw away album. He put it out cause he had to, not because it was inspired.

Agreed, it's ok and has its magic moments.

Chaos & Disorder is in my oppion a very good album. It sound a bit rushed but I think that gives it an agressive quality!

And the fist few bars at the very start of the album blow my mind!

I didn't think it was bad either considering the fact that this came out in '96 when I was on my Prince obsession. It sounded like he just wanted to have some fun before he left the folks at Warners. Definitely an underrated work.

Little is written in print about the Chaos and Disorder sessions, so little that there remains an empty canyon between the mountains of hype swollen around the Gold Experience and Emancipation albums.

Perhaps his multi-layer stacking of vocals in “I Like It There” is the real treat of this second track of the album. The sexual impatience is swollen into the lyrics as prince pleas, “What can I say that Shakespeare hasn’t said before?”

Michael Bland’s bellowing drums crackle like thunder in the background of this wonderful album that like the Rodney Dangerfield of Prince Albums, never seems to get respect.
