Tonex is referred to as the Prince of gospel and says he will be at Paisley Park...with the Prince of Funk.

Check out this link:

Going on the song on that webpage he sounds like more generic R&B fodder.

Tonex: Prince himself has turned an entirely new leaf...God is doing some stuff in him and I believe that I am going to be instrumental in bringing him into the fullness of God.

Tonex is a contemporary gospel artist who looks like a cross between Boy George and George Clinton. Pretty gay if you ask me, but he can sing his sweet ass off!

Tonex, much like Kirk Franklin, is hated by conservative gospel music lovers, because he sounds too much like "the world".

True, but I think many conservative gospel music lovers hate him because he looks like something out of this world.

I don't think it has anything to do with his looks.

It has a lot...if not EVERYTHING to do with his looks! Think about it. Most "seasoned saints" are not going to easily accept someone who dresses like "the world." I'm not saying it's right, but that's just reality. Ya' feel me?

I guess so...maybe his looks don't help matters any, but I believe the main problem traditional gospel listeners have with Tonex is the sound of his music.

Oh, I don't think his sound is any different than any other contemporary gospel artist. It's just when you look at him you don't automatically think "there goes a man of God"...at least I don't. wink Oh well. shrug

Tonex should keep his Lordy-lord stuff for himself! Prince doesn't need him to tell him what to do.

From the article:

Tonex: "As a matter of fact if you ask him (Prince) about his older work, he almost detests it."

Tonex said (on the link):
"but actually Prince himself has turned an entirely new leaf. He doesn’t allow drinking, cursing and smoking and that type of stuff at Paisley Park. As a matter of fact if you ask him about his older work, he almost detests it. God is doing some stuff in him and I believe that I am going to be instrumental in bringing him into the fullness of God. I’m actually going to be rehearsing out at Paisley Park and I believe the Lord will have me there for more than just exchanging musical ideas."

I say:
Larry has taught Prince to hate himself. Once when Prince was asked whether he just acts wild and sexy on stage, he said that he was just being himself--I read this in Per Nilsen's book. I have always admired Prince for having the courage to be true to himself. If he acted irresposibly when he was younger that doesn't mean that sexual expression in music is sinful, evil or corrupting. God didn't punish him for anything.
Is Tonex crazy? Leave Prince alone! Prince doesn't need to feel more guilty than he already appears to be feeling. Tonex, do you have prove that God actually wants this for Prince? Why so sure that Prince needs your guidance?

No, I think that only Prince can find his way. I don't think he needs anyone to do this for him and that includes Tonex. Tonex's opinion on Prince is that of someone who thinks that there was something wrong and there is still something wrong about Prince. What about my post makes you think that I want to be Prince's guide?

You said that you have always admired Prince for being true to himself. You also said that Prince hates himself, that Prince needs to be left alone, that Prince doesn't need to feel guilty. Sounds like you know just what Prince needs (or doesn't need) to me.

What if the "self-hatred" and guilt you perceive is just Prince being true to himself? Not true to who he used to be, or true to what some people want him to be, but true to who he is now. Is that no longer admirable?

Fair enough, Universaluv you have a point. I am just an obssessed fan like many in this site. Though, I am not the only one who thinks that Prince is censoring his musical talent. I sincerily hope that he doesn't feel bad about himself. I think that self-hatred and guilt are counterproductive.
