Time for more speculation and hypotheticals.

But how big do you think prince would be if he

1)Actually promoted his albums and singles with tv appearances and interviews.
2)Played bass and drums and guitar and keys in the public eye more so they can see his talents
3)made music videos and worked to get them on tv.
4)played music festivals like glastonbury and others
5)and, heres a novel idea, do what he suggested he would do when he was free from his contractual ties, GIVE AWAY music for free to fans. say like they buy a cd and inside there is a second one free for no extra cost.

I know this might seem a novel idea or even prince basically pandering to the music business but do you think this would make him one of the biggest musicians superstars to hae ever graced the planet???

would people still disregard him as the bi-sexual black guy who wears heels and make-up and a high voice???

I think at times Prince makes a point of promoting himself less.

Kinda like how he done the backflip on Purple Rain and released ATWIAD, he just knew he wanted to fuck off alot of people.

Then there are the times where he gets the exposure, and it has no impact, like appearing on Oprah.

Hope he appears with Chris Rock at this year's MTV VMA Awards

again where he plays all the instruments and people can see him actually play that kick drum in a pair of heels.

I also believe that NPGMC.com would be alot more popular then too and then he really can go to town on building his independant company. Then maybe even start signign other artists like madonnas done with her Maverick label.

What if prince opened up a music school where he actually taught people how to play instruments and how to write music??? he could have his band members being the tutors and himself as the principal of the school???

even though Prince is still considered an elusive and obscure nut, a lot of ppl still also think he is a genuis all in his own category. plus i really don't think he thinks that that is necessary in his life anymore.

but why not? maybe not a real school, but what about several lessons in song writing, arranging and so on in a way experienced authors do to improve writing skills of young authors? could be an opportunity.

#1 reason Prince isn't as big as "could be":

Himself.

Seems like he purposely doesn't want all the huff and fuff that comes with being in the MJ or Madonna league of celebrity.

At almost every point he has self-sabotaged his rise to stardom at some point or another through what he has released, or not released, and the amount of promotion he has done for a release (or not as the case maybe).

Seems like he wants to be recognised and to release his music to a wide audience (otherwise he wouldn't release anything, he would play for his own enjoyment), but he is either uncomfortable with, or afraid of, being in the A-list, so to speak.
