It would be nice if Prince acknowledged his past with the NPGMC

I mean fans are EAGER to PAY for unreleased vault material.

To ME, the NPGMC is the perfect opportunity to release vault material, whilst, every year or two years he can release a CD of new material, or whatever he chooses, to the general market.

I dunno we're all different, but I think it's not some grand scheme, or some divine freedom of choice, I think Prince is just cutting off his nose to spite his face on this issue.

He has the perfect outlet for cashing in on his fanbase, yet he chooses to ignore the mass market and release only new music to his cloistered, ever decreasing fanbase.

I agree with wanting more music, especially unreleased material. However, I would have to wonder if he can truly make the money he believes he would make from it. When he would have to compete with the likes of EBAY, bootleggers, and the likes of morpheus, winmx etc. etc.

PEACE

That doesn't stop him releasing TRC, ONA, ONA Live, Xpectation or NEWS to the tiny audience of the NPGMC.

TRC, ONA Live and NEWS have been released outside the NPGMC, but no-one outside the Prince fan community knows, they have had no promotion, and as far as the general public is concerned, I imagine a large chunk of them don't even know he has released anything since MBGITW.

I would buy official versions of the boots in a heartbeat. Maybe that's only because I haven't found a reliable source of good boots. I fucking hate mp3s and CD-Rs. I want real CDs.

Yeah it would nice. Prince has never seemed to be all that interested in selling and promoting his past work over what he's currently doing, so I personally don't expect to see something like that happen for a while. Probably after he retires or something.

Put yourself in Prince's shoes - you have recorded new music that you are excited about or you have music recorded years ago that you put aside for whatever reason. Which music would you rather go out on the road & perform? Music that's new & current to you or music you recorded with people you haven't seen in years? As a musician which would be more fulfilling?

Yup, that's what I'm saying he has the perfect outlet and opportunity to release the new stuff and the old stuff. Fans are willing to lap up everything and anything he releases, he can release new music every month (NPGMC Year One) and we will purchase it.

Now maybe he has no intention of releasing most of the old vault stuff, God knows there is a lot of it, and even if he did release it, there are all the alternate versions of released songs that people would crave. I guess as fans we are collectively never satisfied because we know there is more.

Prince sometimes acts like he's not interested in sales, or reviews (he's even said that non-musicians don't have a right to critique his music), but that's really just an act.

If you record music and make it available for sale and distribution you are actively seeking an audience for your art. You actively wanting a wider scope of people outside your immediate group of people to experience that product.

Once people purchase that recording, it is their very right to have an opinion on that recording, and to express it.

Hmmm. Going off on a tangent there smile

I have a hard time seeing Prince saying, "You know, instead of working on my next few albums, I'll spend the next few months remastering "Wonderful Ass" and the extended version of "Right the Wrong".
