Dirty Mind for sure!
I have never been a big fan of Controversy, though it has its moments of course

Dirty Mind...there's times when i prefer Controversy though.

I'm sure its heresy in most quarters, but I really do prefer Controversy. But they practically bookend eachother, so it's a very close contest. ____________________________

Gotta say "Controversy" Album over and over again.
I like the live versions of the DM tracks much better.

The songs or the albums??
Songs: easy... Controversy Albums: tough, tough... Let's Work or Head... tough, tough, tough When You Were Mine or Jack U Off Sister or Ronnie Talk 2 Russia Uptown versus AnnieChristian nop can't make a choice, so let's say N.E.W.S. is the better album because it is newer and at least does not contain explicit lyrics

You can't go wrong with Dirty Mind. It's all about sexual liberation on that one. And it had more of what Prince's (then) philosophy was about. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

"Dirty Mind" without a doubt.

Dirty Mind, although Controversy gets better with every listen for me. I used to think it was one of his worst, but now i like it. Songs like Private Joy and Sexuality sound really dated, but theyve grown on me.
Obviously Controversy is one of his best songs and wipes the floor with almost all of Dirty Mind, as does Do Me Baby. But things like Jack U Off and Lets Work sound like lazy, watered down versions of whats on Dirty Mind, a problem that Controversy suffers from as an album. And nothing, nothing, betters When U Were Mine. I have to listen to this song every, its my most consistently favourite prince song. One thing i like about both albums is how snappy and short they are. Theyre like volumes one and two

roverlo: Interesting way to decide, putting songs from Dirty Mind up against their counterparts of Controversy. (I think I just saw it said here that Controversy's biggest drawback is its tendancy to sort of "copy" Dirty Mind's layout, which I agree with.) Let's see how the two stack up for me. Some of the diads I pose might be contentious.
file under: album opening thesis statements Dirty Mind vs. Controversy? My pick: Throbbing bass drones, flatlining drum-track... gotta go with Dirty Mind... uh-oh. I might have been wrong about which one I chose above. file under: sexual liberation as freedom Partyup vs. Sexuality My pick: More cutting lyrics and in this case, faster is better: Sexuality, easily. file under: socio-political utopianism Uptown vs. Ronnie Talk to Russia? My pick: Yeah, "Sexuality" is a better fit, but I already used it. The notion that Ronnie might listen to the song and respond accordingly, though, is sort of like a psychological utopian fantasia... for Prince. In any case, Uptown beats the tar out of it. file under: envelope-pushing sexscapes Head vs. Jack U Off? My pick: Risking cred, I'm going with the hilarious throwaway instead of the more "important" moment in Prince's artistic growth: Jack U Off. file under: melodically-cute heavy-petting Do It All Night vs. Private Joy? My pick: Private Joy, Prince's most underrated tune. file under: the slow jam Gotta Broken Heart Again vs. Do Me, Baby? My pick: Like comparing Mamet to O'Neill: Do Me, Baby. file under: obvious controversy-bait Sister vs. Annie Christian? My pick: I'm sort of split down the middle. On one hand, Sister is still shocking as hell but still essentially a toss-off. On the other, Annie Christian is sparse and chillingly brilliant production-wise, if maybe a little bit easy in its political statements. A tie. file under: leftovers When You Were Mine vs. Let's Work? My pick: I shouldn't compare these two odd men out. (Alright: When You Were Mine.) Interesting... the winner is still Controversy. Dirty Mind is a tight little album though, nonetheless. ____________________________

Dirty Mind 4 me 4 its punkish, stripped down spirit. Controversy is great but there's something raw about Dirty Mind which I like.

Those that voted for Controversy over 'Dirty Mind' must be outta their fucking minds!
'Controversy' has some great tracks on it, namely the title track, 'Lets Work', and 'Sexuality'. But 'Dirty Mind' is Dirty Mind!!! "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

"Controversy" by quite a bit, although I love both very much.

Moderator | I LOVE them both the same. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Controversy. I listen to it more.

DIRTY MIND DIRTY MIND DIRTY MIND!!!
If he hadn't done that album Controversy would never have existed!! It's the album that defined Prince as a 'Rude Boy' and paved the way 4 everything that happened since. There's some good stuff on Controversy but the album is transitional 2 1999. Like I said DIRTY MIND DIRTY MIND DIRTY MIND!!!
