The Greatest Romance...

I've been listening to the Rave CD a lot lately...especially 'The Greatest Romance Ever Sold' and 'Love U But Don't Trust U Anymore'. For me, the songs show raw emotion and I think that's what I like best about Prince.

I just think this one line sums it up for me.

"so this is where u end, and u and i begin"

It just sounds natural coming from him...

Just a thought from a new "org"er. smile

Greatest Romance is one of his best songs. Good stuff. I also like Where Ever You Go (even though it is a bit cheesy).

I thought the same thing. I also really like Man O War. More raw emotion than some of his other songs. I haven't joined the NPGMC, but I hope to get the new CD soon. I just wish he'd put out some more material like in 'Rave'.

Man O' War is the best track on this album...I wish that he would stop doing covers of other's songs...I really hate S. ow. Like Gwen, though. He's trying too hard to be commercial on this album IMHO.

love this song, it's one of his best!

TGRES is a treasure. I often wish that Rave contained the Adam & Eve remix - my favorite version of the song.

I think this whole album is really sad though - all about the break up / failure of a great loving relationship to looking for and being in a new one to compensate.

Great music but sad meaning to Prince personaly.

I prefer all the versions of tracks on the
Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic CD. The 8 minute
version of TGRES is the best. Plus the
re-recorded dance version of the title track
is a vast improvement. And of couse it
includes 'Beautiful Strange'.

I agree 100% kiki. On this album, you can really grasp what the meaning is in a lot of his songs whereas others it tends to be pretty difficult.

eek

The song might be good, but you have to be outta your mind to think it's one of his best.
It aint even one of the best on the album. Try:
'I love you, but..'
'Strange but True'
"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

nod It's actually one of the reasons I don't listen to it much. (Besides the shit songs, of course.) Seriously, though, "TGRES" "Man O War," "ILYBIDTYA" are great songs, but too sad to listen to. Maybe because I've been going through the long, slow death of an eight-year relationship myself.

Jesus Christ, did I just say that? lol

I like The Greatest Romance.

In fact I'm starting to quite like a lot of this album again!

The title track, Tangerine, Man 'O' War, I Love You..., Strange But True, Wherever You Go... and PrettyMan are all ok.

I forgot Prettyman! woot!

I'll never forget listening to this disc for the first time, feeling a little let down at the end - some really good tracks, some really embarrassing tripe. Then, after a period of silence, comes this voice that sounds like a bitchy drag queen chewing a wad of gum: "Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful!" Then comes a fun, funky ride better than most of the rest of the album. Goddamn, just another reason I love the man.

The greatest mistake of a lot of fans is that they get hyped up for a Prince album & when it is released it tends to not live up to expectations.Worse, you get to a computer,go to a site and chat with several people who think like you & now Prince is washed up,etc, etc.

Now I am from the 80's when the internet did not exist,in 1987 I walked to the "mom & pop" record store & bought SOTT.After listening to the album ,I thought it was shit !
The only song I liked was U Got The Look.Three weeks later I popped it into the WALKMAN to cut the grass and SOTT was the greatest album ever.

The same exact thing happened with Lovesexy,GB,etc, etc, ect.
8 years ago The Gold Experence was "the worst Prince album"Now on this very site ppl say "I love TGE."

Rave U2 the Joy Fantastic story would have been a lot different if Clive Davis wasn't overthrown at Artista and Prince would have been more willing to work in a timeframe(getting videos ready).

Let the music digest in your system before making a judgement.

I loved Rave .

Another of my faves. I forgot all about that one...but doesn't it seem to fall into the "failed relationship" like the other ones mentioned above? Maybe that's why I like it so much! I'm also diggin' "Baby Knows". I try to stomach "So Far, So Pleased", although I don't like Gwen Stefani on back-up. IMO, that song she did with Moby (at least her vocals) was awful. I had heard that he (Moby) was really unhappy with her vocals...I can see why after hearing her on Baby Knows. Prince really seems like he was toning it down a bit to compensate for her lack of vocal range...I really have to crank that one up to hear most of his vocals.
