For those that have heard N.E.W.S.

What do the songs sound like now? Is it the usual Jazz/Funk that he's been churning out or did P decide to jump on that whole Electroclash bandwagon?

What in the name of sodomy happened to his maxim from back in the day "It's time for a new direction, It's time for jazz to die."

???
He's fuckin lost the plot - for real this time.

The guitar sounds on east are cool tho.

Awww, man shake I thought he was gonna bring some electroclash into the mix. Is that the best he could do though? He should stretch his creative Mojo again.

I do not see why he had that maxim in the first place...
Around what time did he proclaim this? It is rather silly, if you ask me!

Your answer could be found on "All The Critics Love U In N.Y." from the 1999 album.

The Prince of 1999 is the polar opposite of the Prince walking the Earth tonight. I know who I prefer, despite TRC being one of the greatest things he's done.

sdl, I must take considerable umbrage at the negative slant of your afore posted comment. If the time and effort was made to anylise my innane ramblings then you would be forced to conclude that I also want Prince to move forward.
If you call News, as much as I am warming to it, 'progress', then you obviously haven't heard the man's 80s material when he looked at what came before him, sniffed, and created a unique hybrid of his own.
He has now chained himself chained to his own past, jamming endlessly in vomiting circles, showing versatility and skill when passion, balls and instinct once fuelled his funk.
I remain optimistic, however, that once day, my Prince will come (again). |TRC provides ample enough evidence to support my bold claim.

I was also here back in the day. Wileling away my time like a peddlar on his penny pathling, each morning there was a fresh sun and in the evening we picked dandelions for the graduates.

23 you are correct however I think Prince is on cruise control. He cannot chart again. His so called fans are criticizing his every move. Why even release anything when you are "casting pearls before the swine".

These post sure are different from the chatboard on the NPG.
I don't care for the songs on NEWS enough to buy it.
As far as him Casting his pearls before the swines. The fans arenot swines, we are really his best friends in the world.
And News is no pearl. I wonder how much effort it took to put these four songs together?

For prospensity's sake, I actually prefer the NPGMC intro to NEWS' overwrought Kenny G-isms. "NPG, NPG, NPG, NPG, Joooiinn nooowww."
Rip that muthafucka onto CD now and glue the headphone 2 yo head, beeatch!

I haven't bought every commerically released album he ever put out(only cuz i have most of the songs on bootleg) but I do believe NEWS is worth the $13+.

NEWS is worth hearing. It's good, but not as good as either "Xpectation" or "C Note" though.

I (almost: I would drop "in vomiting circles"; I still love him jamming) totally agree.

Man there was plenty of irony in All the Critics... didn't you notice that? Why then would all records like SOTT, Parade and even Lovesexy has that jazz flavor... you say he lost it now well followinf your (wrong) statement he has lost his way a very long time ago then...

"Old school", man! "Old school"!!

I disagree Klaatu.

1999, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy were ahead of their time, and even "out of time" (in the sense that it really compared and still compares to no other artists' records)...while NEWS (and even TRC, which I like very much) are not innovative albums. They are just repeating others' work (70s jazz-fusion mostly), with that prince touch for sure, but still they are not and will never be groundbreaking records.
