The concept behind Gold N!@@a I haven't heard this album, but asuming that it came out around the same time as the 1-800-NEW-FUNK compilation album did. Who were the players of the NPG? Did Prince use a pseudonym on this album as well? Any features, etc.?

the concept seems to be tony, michael, sonny and the guys trying to get a record deal on their own terms. it's mostly live-band hip-hop, with tony m. featured on lead. there are some cool tunes, lots of jokes and stuff, segues, and a three-part title track. 2gether is the same as on 1-800-new-funk. prince appears on johnny (doing a hilarious drunken vocal), black MF in the house (actin' like a redneck), and call the law (which is identical to the money don't matter b-side). i don't think there are any credits on this album whatsoever. prince isn't even mentioned anywhere. it was never sold in stores, only through 1-800-new-funk. the first editions have a song called guess who's knockin? which borrows from the wings tune let 'em in. it was removed from subsequent pressings to avoid litigation. It was sold at the NPG stores, along with the CD Maxi "2gether". Worth picking up if not just for the funktastic Black MF In The House. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It is alright, but not nearly as good as EXODUS, which is the best NPG album! The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018.
