Help!!!!! What is this song...?

It starts off like " How long have we known each other? How Little do we know?..." and the around the end it gets into ".. your in love with some soldier. who'd much rather die than be by your side, if he only knew..."

It is an awesome song IMO and just popped in my head this morning in the shower. I think it was around the '84-86 period. Maybe something from the very underrated Family-Mazerati creation. (well mostly underrated Family material)

Thanks Dude or dudette. I love this song. I have it on tape , but it was no way I wanted to go through about 50,000 hours of boots to find it. Now that I know I can go right to it. Thanks again

Prince's version contains that incredible Eric Leeds sax solo at the end! One of my fave Eric moments ever!

The Family CD came out in the summer of 1985 but that song was actually recorded in the summer of 1984.

Didnt really dig Prince Protoges very much
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Shame, there's some great stuff in there.

I dig the related artists more than I do Prince.

if u live in the US, that CD never came out. it, along with mazarati, kind of fell through the cracks and was never issued on CD. german and japanese imports started appearing ...i don't know when. i bought the record in august '85, loved it and waited, waited, waited...but alas, no CD. i even thought when sinead o'connor took her song to no. 1 in 1990, it would somehow renew interest in this album and initiate a first-time on CD release in the US. but no.
the family is really one of the most interesting and important albums in prince's catalogue. much more forward-thinking than around the world in a day.

it was Prince probably at his most poetic. If there were any social comments, or record company complaints they were well hidden within the lyrics. Take anything from the 84-86 period and you can see what I'm talking about. From the poetic " Parade" LP to anything with the his musical
" family" Prince was lyrically and charismically on top of the world.
