Was it a joke or did he really not know? Awww man...you'd be the first to call him out on it. A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man, dontcha know? "A few turbulence" is perfectly cromulent. Heed the silver-tongued words of Jebediah Springfield! The Normal Whores Club

TreeDog said: I don't know, certainly he is a very smart guy, but that doesn't necessarily mean he knew it wasn't grammatically correct. I have a pretty high IQ myself, and for a long time I said "thermomostat" instead of "thermostat". Not stupidity, ignorance. Not the bad kind either, the uninformed kind (which is the true definition of ignorance).

Let's be frank here. At this point in his career Prince was an inner city kid just starting out. While some of his lyrics, even then, were quite sophisticated and clever, he was not yet as polished as he would eventually become. His use of "a few turbulence" could be the result of ignorance at the time regarding the proper terminology, since he was not yet the world traveller he would be as an international music star. Let's "cut him some slack" for this early mistake.

I know where youre coming from but he was not just starting out..he had already dropped 4 albums and had toured extensively already by the time 1999 rolled around. "Climb in my fur."

What's the point being made here? Incorrect grammar? If you pick up on that area all the time you'll find plenty of songs by Prince and others to criticise... relax and enjoy the vibes.

Yup - seems to be that, despite Prince's obvious artistic capabilities, no matter what songs you like or dislike, we appear to have some people here who regard some lyrics as being grammatically incorrect and despite a perfectly valid argument explaining artistic licence and it's merit!
(and my grammar's licenced too, for anyone caring to pull it apart ) ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
